S Tier
S Tier contains the most badass and dangerous Danganronpa characters of all time. The characters in this tier are the best of all Danganronpa game sequels. Never make the mistake of messing with these characters because they will make sure to stop your breathing. Not only in the game but also in the anime, these characters steal the spotlight every time they show up. Ranking all Danganronpa characters is difficult since there are so many characters and so many game sequels. Therefore, in this guide, we will only be ranking the characters from three main Danganrona games, which are Trigger Happy Havoc (2010), Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (2012), and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.
The characters in the S Tier are really strong and good in the game. Moreover, they are also funny and intriguing in the anime too. They have a great storyline and are worth investing your time in. Below we have listed down the best Danganronpa characters for you to decide your hero. Since there are many characters worthy of being in the S tier, only the most exceptional characters get a description and review from us. Feel free to share who you think is the best Danganronpa character in the comment section!
Makoto Naegi
Makoto Naegi from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is one of the most memorable Danganronpa’s characters. He is optimistic and has a great positive attitude towards life. Even in the darkest moment of the survival game, he preaches about being hopeful. He is empathetic and sympathetic especially towards those who have fallen into despair. Naegi only has one enemy, and that is Junko Enoshima. He believes that she is the real evil who spreads despair among people. Makoto Naegi despites despair to his heart’s core. Hence, one can only imagine how much he despises the one spreading despair. He does not forgive evil and never gives up on defeating evil. He may have a weak outer appearance but he is very strong from the inside, which makes him one of the best characters of Danganronpa.

Kokichi Oma
Personally, my team and I think that Kokichi is the coolest character of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. Being a tsundere, he cares a lot about everyone but does not show it. Moreover, he has been through a very messed up past. Nevertheless, he still stands strong and fights the despair to survive. He does not give in easily, which makes him even more attractive. There are many things that make Kokichi an S Tier character. Kokichi is a leader of a small group of evil youngsters, who likes to pull pranks on others. The name of his small organization is ‘DNA Integrated Cybernetic Enterprises’, D.I.C.E. He has great leadership qualities and is a dominant guy.
He has a very interesting storyline that highlights his past traumas. In the bonus mode, Ultimate Talent Development Plan, you will be able to know a little about his family’s past. It is hard to not have him as a favorite. He is cute yet terrifying, and he loves to flirt with his detective Shuichi.

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu
If there exists an S Tier in this tier list, I would definitely put Fuyuhiko in it. He is a great character in Danganronpa. Fuyuhiko appears in two seasons; Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School, and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. He has the title of the ultimate Yakuza. However, Fuyuhiko finds it hard to accept his last name since he does not think he is qualified for it.
Fuyuhiko is short-tempered and hot-headed. Other people very easily irritate him, which in return makes others irritated by him. He does not like stupid and illogical people. Even though he is often in a bad mood, his cute baby face makes it hard to hate. He just looks like that red angry bird. Nonetheless, he is a very serious person, who is deeply dedicated to his duties and responsibilities.

Nagito Komaeda
Can someone even be a Danganronpa fan and not have Nagito as one of their favorite characters in the game or anime? Well, I certainly do not think that anyone can dislike him because he is just so likable! His cool appearance will make you simp for him real-time. For having such good luck in life, he earned the title of the Ultimate Lucky Student.
Nagito is sweet, caring, and kind. Though, some people might get annoyed by his big talks about hope and success. He is one cool man. He is every girl’s dream waifu. However, that is not something to determine why he is in the S Tier of this game’s character list. The real reason Nagito Komaeda is in the S Tier is his amazing selflessness and useful talent. He helps others and tries to solve conflicts between them. His talent is his good luck. However, after getting something out of his talent, something bad is bound to happen to him. It is his talent’s negative side effect.
Moreover, Nagito is an optimistic person who is always smiling and laughing. However, he has a history of making insensitive jokes also at the wrong time. In Danganronp’a second game sequel, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, he unintentionally offends Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu.

Gundham Tanaka
Gundham has one of the biggest if not the biggest fanbase and I do not see why not. He owns four hamsters which are the Four Dark Devas of Destruction. However, They were hamsters in the game or at least appeared to be hamsters because they were supposed to be representing the four harbingers of doom or horsemen of the apocalypse. Furthermore, having Gundham be the ultimate horse boy would have been out of character.
He killed Nekomaru to rescue people from starving because Monokuma refused to feed the students until a murder occurred. If he hadn’t killed Neko, every student would have died of starvation. He is the real hero of the game. It is absolutely impossible to not like him.
Gundham believes that animals are more human than humans themselves. He is very empathetic towards humans from which he gets his talent the Ultimate Breeder.

Gonta Gokuhara
Gonta is an easy S Tier character in this Danganronpa Tier ranking because there is nothing not to appreciate about him. He’s as though the heavens had sent him as a savior. He’s nice, yet he’s a force to be reckoned with. The Ultimate Entomologist is his moniker. Entomologists are those who study insects professionally, recreationally, or both.
Living with insects since his childhood, he learned how to communicate and control insects. He is like Tarzan but instead of monkeys, he was raised by insects. Gonta had also invented multiple cultivation methods. In addition, he once discovered a parasitic worm that has been spreading plaque. As a result, he was acclaimed as a hero for saving so many people.
Gonta is the best of all Danganronpa characters in terms of personality. He protects his friend and takes responsibility for his actions. Moreover, he has also proved to be a very forgiving person especially in Chapter 4, where he forgives Kokichi for tricking him. His other talent is ‘Keen Intellect’, which allows him to develop complex plans and solve problems efficiently.

A Tier
The A-tier characters are the second-best in the three games of Danganronpa. They have many good qualities, making them stable characters in the game. They have the potential to be in S Tier with just some adjustments. Their talents and abilities are very useful in terms of survival. Moreover, they also have a good storyline that keeps you interested in the game. The Tier characters are one to look for. You must proceed with extra care and be vigilant if they are your enemy. Since these characters mostly survived the longest in the anime, they have a large fanbase.
Even if a character in A Tier has a horrendous personality, their excellent talent and abilities make up for their rude behavior. One can not help but accept that these characters are very useful and interesting. Moreover, their appearances and personalities are also attractive. If it were not for the S Tier characters’ perfection, the A characters would take a spot in the S Tier of the Danganronpa Character Tier List. Below is the list of all the Tier Characters of Danganronpa.
Mondo Owada
Mondo Owada earned the title of Ultimate Biker Gang Leader by having extraordinary biker skills and being a gang leader. He is not just a pushover. Once during school, he knocked out Makoto with a single punch because of his bulky body and monstrous strength. He is practically a giant with a height of 6.2 and a weight of 168 lbs. Mondo Owada also requested Kiyotaka to have an Endurance testing battle. Mondo Owada and Kiyotaka lasted a long time in the Sauna during this event.
Moreover, Mondo Owada even had his clothes on, increasing the effect of heat. Nevertheless, both survived for a long time developing a friendlier bond. Mondo did not leave the chance to show off his strong endurance ability.
Mondo Owada had a craze of learning how to drive a bike since childhood. Therefore, his brother nourished him, teaching him biker skills and developing him into a perfect biker who soon became the Ultimate Biker Gang Leader. Mondo’s brother Daiya also used to say, “if you ever hit a girl mother would kill you” in the future, Mondo avoids hitting any girl. Even when Makoto tells Mondo Owada to fight Sakura, Mondo refuses, saying, “I never hit a girl.”
Mondo Owada, despite having a ruthless history of school killings and a criminal record, has a sweet spot for dogs. That is because he had a dog named Chuck, who he loved a lot when he was small. Anyhow, Mondo was very nice and a gentleman. However, he gets nervous around new people, brings out his ruffian personality, and scares people away instead. All these qualities make him A Tier character.

Celestia Ludenberg
Celestia Ludenberg is also known as the Ultimate Gambler. She is a character in the game Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Moreover, she is wise, and clever, and can manipulate anyone she likes. Because of all the lies and manipulation she says and does, she earned the title of Queen of Liars. Her real name is Taeko Yasuhiro. She has great survival skills and knows what she needs to do. In the game, she manipulates Hifumi to get rid of Kiyotaka, who is harassing and threatening her. Celestia Ludenberg is a hard character to defeat. It is very difficult to shoot the truth bullets at her because she never shows signs of a struggle. Therefore, you must be very careful while dealing with her.
She is called the Ultimate gamble because she is not afraid to take risks. Celestia is ambitious and will do everything to get what she wants. She might be weak in physical strength, but her mental capabilities are enough to get her into the A Tier. The Ultimate Gambler and Queen of Liars titles are also her abilities. She has good gambling and lying skills. Her last talent is Keen Intellect, which allows her to successfully manipulate and execute her plans. She is a quick thinker and can easily figure out a way from trouble. However, the characters in S Tier are better than her in some aspects, which gets Celestia a position in A Tier.

Aoi Asahina
Aoi Asahina is a physically fit young lady. Because she is a swimmer, she has a strong lower body. When you play as Makoto Naegi in the game, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, she will be your most steadfast ally. She is a simpleton who struggles with manipulation and tactics. She does, however, have a good physical strength that is comparable to Makoto’s physical strength. Her talent and title are both The Ultimate Swimmer. She also has a very attractive appearance, which makes many fans love her.
When you are playing the game, please pay close attention when speaking with her. She may come to your aid several times. On one occasion, following Sayaka’s death, you will be accused of murder. That is where she will recall you (Makoto Naegi) being with her when the knife was stolen. This will erase some of the suspicions from you. Others, though, will try to implicate both of you in the crime, claiming that Aoi is Makoto’s accomplice or partner.

Monukuma
Monukuma is featured in all of Danganronpa’s games. In Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, he claims to own the Hope’s Peak Academy, which forces students to kill each other. You will see him first burning a student alive through a rocket and laughing devilishly. He is the one that introduces the students to the killing games, tells them all the rules, and judges the trials. He also calls himself the Headmaster.
Monukuma looks like a half-white and half-black bear with an evil grin. His white side looks cute, while his black side depicts evil. He uses multiple ways to convince the students to murder each other. The students are shown videotapes of their families being kidnapped and locked up. He does all this to threaten the students to start killing one another. When a student breaks down in despair, Monukuma laughs eerily.
Getting enough of Monukuma’s antiques, Junko Enoshima tries to get rid of Monukuma. However, she is stabbed in the chest by the Spears of Gungnir, and Monukuma activates. He later creates another killing school in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair after the students from the first school escape. He has no talents like the students; however, being the mastermind behind the killing school, defeating him is difficult.

Mahiru Koizumi
Mahiru Koizumi is one of the 16 students in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. She is a bright and optimistic girl. However, her bright, confident, and calm personality is fake; in reality, she suffers from low self-esteem. She thinks very low of herself and has issues staying positive. Mahiru is particularly harsh toward men but very friendly and kind toward girls. Despite having, the Ultimate Photographer as her title and talent, she thinks the photos she takes are of bad quality and not good enough. She also does not like the title because she thinks it is very stupid.
Nevertheless, Mahiru never fails to calm his friends and help them out. She has a nice personality and is very caring and protective of her friends. She even holds the potential to be the next main character of Danganronpa if a spin-off is to be made. Mahiru is a dangerous opponent and puts the main character (you) in many troublesome situations. Be aware of her!

Their storyline is interesting to an extent.

B Tier
The B Tier characters are also strong characters and difficult to argue with. For example, the B Tier of DBZ Movie Bosses Tier List characters can play decently but are still average. They are strong-headed, wise, and intelligent. However, compared to the students in S and A Tiers, B Tier characters seem to lack many qualities. Nonetheless, they are still good and interesting characters that make it to the B Tier. In the B Tier, we have included characters that are very average and have nothing extraordinary about them. However, this does not mean that they are weak or bad characters. They just lie in the middle of the ranking bar. In case you do not agree with the ranking, you can make your own Danganronpa ranking list using the Danganronpa Tier List maker.
These individuals have a compelling storyline and are quite appealing. They also have pleasant personalities that endear you to them. Even if some characters do not have particularly likable personalities, their strength helps push them to the B Tier. Before ranking a character, we analyzed every facet of it. Personality, debating skills, talents, and leadership skills are the most important factors we consider. If a character lacks one attribute, the other compensates for it. The characters listed below deserve to be in the B Tier of this Danganronpa Tier List, along with an explanation of why they are in it.
Monodam
Monodam is Monokuma’s one of four Monokubs. Team Danganronpa created these 5 bears to run the killing school academy. While Monokuma is the main bear who runs the show, the other bears and Monodam assist Monokuma. Monodam is the second strongest one out of the 5 Monokubs. He is also the most likable one among them.

Unfortunately for the students of Hope Peak Academy, Junko fails in killing Monokuma and gets herself injured in return. She is one of the most dangerous characters in the series of Dangaronpa. Usami is one of the main characters in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. She takes the place of Monokuma from Danganronpa 1 in this sequel. she is known by various names or titles to be precise, e.g., Magical Girl Miracle, Observer, Teacher at Hope’s Peak Academy, and she is also the sister of Monokuma from Danganronpa. Despite the horrible nature of Monokuma, Monomi, on the other hand, is softer from the inside and tries to help the players. Still, the fact that she kidnaps them to an island they dislike that fact and hate Monomi for that, disregarding the fact that she is trying to be nice to them. Nevertheless, she is labeled as a traitor, and the participants of the game hate her because they assume Monomi is evil and is just pretending to be nice.

Yasuhiro Hagakure, Hiro, or Branch Office 14 Member. He was also a part of killing school life in Danganronpa 1 and in the future can be seen in Danganronpa 3. This guy right here is someone not popular in his class fellows. Players mostly dislike him because of his selfishness and talent, “Ultimate Clairvoyant.” His skills and abilities are considered weak as compared to other Danganronpa characters. Though we can’t judge him much as the Crystal Ball he had cost millions. Moreover, compared to others in his line, his predictions were pretty strong and turned out to be true. For example, his predictions about how there will be no more killings in the future came true.

Leon Kuwata
Ultimate Baseball Star Leon Kuwata, unlike other Ultimates Leon Kuwata, is the most misjudged character as he is hated for protecting himself against his murderer by killing his murderer in return which further gets him into a lot of trouble and, to the end, getting punished. As much as some players like to support Leon, the more his haters are to defame him, as his killing Sayaka while protecting himself is considered a selfish means to get out of his situation.
If you ask me whether I would do the same thing as him if I were in Leon Kuwata’s place or not, honestly, I would probably have done the same. Being on a deserted island in a building where there is nobody but strangers who are after your life, you won’t just ask for others to help you. Instead, one will most likely try anything to protect oneself from the murderers. And that is exactly what Leon Kuwata did. However, that was bad for him as his selfishness resulted in several deaths. In the end, Leon Kuwata gets severely punished for his sins. Although I like Leon, one may not like him for his personality. Therefore, they can use a Danganronpa tier list maker to rank him according to their opinion of him.

The characters in our Danganronpa character tier list who are on the boundary of average or below average will be placed in the C-tier. These are characters that people almost hate. In people’s eyes, these Danganronpa characters are not very attractive in any aspect. Most people do not enjoy looking at these characters or playing with them in the game. The Danganronpa characters on this list have been ranked a great deal of research and the opinions of others to reduce the tier list’s fluctuation. The crew has attempted to compile this Danganronpa list as objectively as possible.
Sayaka Maizono
Ultimate Pop Sensation, Sayaka Maizono, is an idol girl who is liked by many players and is also kind to other participants of Danganronpa, but that is not the only thing about her Sayaka Maizono plans to kill Leon Kuwata, who, in the future, ends up as the reason of Sayaka’s death. However, some consider her plan to kill Leon Kuwata a good thing; on the other hand, some hate her saying that this was a cowardice choice which in the future makes up trouble for Leon Kuwata. Nevertheless, she chooses to attempt to murder Leon out of being scared of being murdered and to escape the game resulting in her death. She is reckless and easily defeated in the game. If you have never played Danganronpa, you may be wondering why Mukuro looks so much like Junko. That is because Junko Enoshima’s older twin sister is Mukuro Ikusaba. While Mukuro adored her younger sister, Junko had no feelings for her and saw her as a useful asset in her nefarious scheme. Junko also shows contempt for her older sister and condescendingly treats Mukuro. Her previous title, before she went crazy, was the Ultimate Soldier. She, too, becomes the Ultimate Despair after being betrayed by her sister. Her talent is like her first title, the Ultimate Soldier, which she learned from training in an elite mercenary group in the Middle East. Hiyoko Saionji is almost one female character that annoys gamers the most. She was envious of Mikan’s ability to teach herself Hiyoko’s skills. Hiyoko was enraged by this, which was one reason she harassed her the most. Mikan allegedly taught herself how to treat her wounds after she was bullied. While Hiyoko can be mean, she still has a heart and already gave her heart to Mahiru in school. The memories of the time she spent in school with Mahiru are very special to Hiyoko. In one chapter, you can also see Hiyoko confessing to Mahiru, who admits back and says he loves her too. She has a long storyline and will often appear in the game Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. D Tier
Finally, to the tier which contains the worst characters of Danganronpa. D Tier characters are those that are lacking in all-around talents or abilities. They are mediocre in everything. They lack attractive appearances, personalities, talents, and skills, as well as an intriguing plot. These Danganronpa characters are subpar and have several problems. They are the least liked characters in Danganronpa.
Moreover, Characters in the D Tier are usually never a good choice for showing interest. They are given little weight in the game and rarely appear. Even members of the fanbase don’t pay much attention to them. Although the characters rated in the D Tier are based on our surveys and our team’s own experiences, you may disagree with the ranking. Therefore, share who you think should be placed higher in this Tier.
Hifumi Yamada
I may or may not have let my personal feelings interfere while ranking this Danganronpa character. There is absolutely nothing likable about him in my opinion at least. Hifumi was the one who teamed up with Celestia Ludwig and tricked Yasuhiro Hagakure and put him in danger. Celestia very easily manipulated him as he had a peanut-sized brain that could not think on its own. He later dies a miserable death that too because of his stupidity. Hifumi was killed by the same girl he teamed up with. He was a pathetic character and did not even have any good talent. Moreover, his terrible personality makes him even worse. Hifumi is lewd and filthy.

Teruteru Hanamura
Teruteru is just another Hifumi Yamada. Hifumi was in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc while Teruteru is in Danganronpa 2: Good-Bye Despair. They both play almost the same role in their respective version. Teruteru is extremely vulgar and is frequently observed hitting on anybody in his vicinity, both male and female. He also often crosses his limits and starts sexually harassing the characters. He is vulgar, lewd, and filthy.
Moreover, Teruteru understands every double-meaning joke and reacts to it. There is not even a single thing that might make him look better. The thing that makes anyone hate him the most is that he ate his mother. Furthermore, his events are also very boring. Teru Teru is the worst of all Danganronpa characters.

Tsumugi Shirogane
Tsumugi Shirogane is one of the villains in the Ultimate Academy of Gifted Juveniles and by far the weakest villain in this Danganronpa Tier List. She just looks like a knock-off version of Junko Enoshima. Moreover, her personality is bland and soulless. Because of her unattractive personality, the Danganronpa fanbase often criticizes her. She is far inferior as a Mastermind, especially to Junko and Izuru Kamakura. According to many players, Tsumugi doesn’t deserve to be one of the Danganronpa Team members as she is not qualified enough. Her titles are Ultimate Cosplayer and New Ultimate Despair.

Angie Yonaga
Angie Yonaga is a student at the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles, as well as a member of the Killing School Semester. Moreover, Angie has a combative mentality that does not suit her well. She just looks to be obnoxious and dissatisfied. Many people despise her brainwashing tactics and attempt to impose her beliefs on her colleagues. Angie’s cheery demeanor made it obvious that she was unpopular. It’s either spooky or bothersome. She’s very hopeful, which catches the player off guard. Angie proclaims her religious beliefs and ignores the opinions of others on a regular basis. Her cult-like behavior makes people uncomfortable. She has the talent of the Ultimate Artist, which is also the title the Danganronpa team gave her. However, it is not quite sure if she even has that talent.

Monosuke and Monotaro
Team Danganronpa created Monosuke, as well as his four other siblings. Monodam, his brother, put him exactly beneath Kirumi Tojo’s falling body, forcefully crushing him as she struck the ground, quickly murdering him and Kirumi. Monosuke and Monotaro are on the D tier because they are the weakest siblings among all the Monokubs.
