After much waiting, Sony Interactive has finally released one of its most awaited AAA titles, and our God of War Ragnarok tier list will cover all usable weapons available throughout the game. Don’t worry, you will not find any spoilers in our article, we will only discuss the skills in terms of certain attributes like crowd control, range, and damage.
However, it is important to know that the list is subjective, and there is a high chance that you may not agree with the rankings I make. For context, the ranking will be done based on damage, usability, and design of the weapon.
Key Points
- There are a total of 3 usable weapons in the game.
- Our ranking is based on Damage, Cooldown, Runic Attacks, Crowd Control, etc. in mind.
- The best of these weapons is the Leviathon Axe.
- The least useful among these is the Draupnir Spear.
Summary
The table below will give you a quick rundown of the weapon names and their rank.
S Rank | A Rank | B Rank |
---|---|---|
Leviathan Axe | Blades of Chaos | Draupnir Spear |
Each entry will be further discussed in the text that follows.
S Tier
Like most similar articles, the first rank of our God of War Ragnarok Tier List is the S tier. Here we will discuss the best weapon you will have access to in the game.
It ranks the highest in design and damage and offers quite a nice and creative skill tree. What that skill tree offers is for you to discover on your own, but for now, let us have a look at the weapon.
Leviathan Axe
The Leviathan Axe is the only S-tier weapon in God of War Ragnarok. It was quite an obvious pick, as it was, and continues to be Kratos’ main weapon through the new God of War games. The axe is to Kartos what Mjolnir is to Thor, and as far as I’m concerned, it is the single most devastating weapon in the entire game. You would not be at fault if you leveled it up first, since it is great in combat and offers decent control, but most importantly, it has some of the best animations.
It does struggle a bit in the crowd control department, but if you’re a seasoned God of War player, then handling yourself in outmatched fights with the axe is no difficult task. However it is quite mechanical, so getting down combos is your priority. Try to learn them as soon as you can because playing the game without them is quite brutal.

A Tier
Here in the A rank we will go over the second-best weapon in the game. It is entirely possible that you may perform better with this weapon than the axe, but it all really depends on how you play.
The weapon does perform a bit worse than Leviathon Axe simply based on usability and damage, but it’s still an absolute beast. Now let’s take a deeper look at our A-tier weapon.
Blades of Chaos
The only A-tier weapon that we will discuss are the Blades of Choas. First and foremost, this is the best weapon when it comes to crowd control, and it easily beats the Leviathon Axe in that respect. However, it does have some problems, the first of which is the range. Contrary to how the weapon looks, there is a very limited range in which it is really effective, unlike the axe which is a beast at close, and mid-range. landing combos is also not the most fun, as the focus here is on getting a lot of enemies with the strikes, and not focusing on one.
Granted, it does have some absolutely devastating attacks, but landing them is extremely tedious and, most of the time, extremely risky. You should keep the weapon your second priority, especially if you’re a new player to these games. However, if you like to challenge yourself, feel free to use the weapon because it is the hardest to master.

B Tier
The last rank of our God of War Ragnarok tier list is, of course, the B tier. Here, we will discuss the worst weapon you can access in the game. And while our article is highly subjective, I don’t think a lot of players will disagree with my decision here.
When you do play the game, you will know exactly why the current weapon made its way to the last tier. However, let’s have a look at what we can expect of it in the game anyway.
Draupnir Spear
The last and final weapon we will discuss in the article is the Draupnir Spear, which is new to the current entry. The weapon only has one strength, which is that it has the highest range among all the weapons in the game, but that’s pretty much all it stands for. When it comes to the damage, it is extremely low. In terms of crowd control, it requires pinpointing accuracy and god-like reactions to pull off combos.
It is also one of the most unforgiving weapons in the entire game. If you plan on using the weapon, you cannot afford to make any mistakes in battle. It does have certain abilities that make it a more viable weapon, but even then, it is far less useful than the two weapons we have discussed above. The combos with the weapon also do far less damage than the Blades of Chaos or the Leviathon Axe.
