S tier

The S Tier contains the best Godzilla movies, they are perfectly made and bring the world’s most dangerous monster onto the screen with no flaws and are rated highly by critics as well as long-term Godzilla fans. In the tier list, the movies of the S tier are at the top of the ranking.

Godzilla (1954)

godzilla movie tier list
1954 (Godzilla)

Godzilla is considered the most powerful among all the monsters. Some regard him as the King of the monsters. Just like that, this masterpiece by Ishirō Honda is the king of all the movies in the Godzilla franchise. All the Godzilla films are great, but this film has its glimmer. With its monochromatic print and one of the best storylines.

None of the Godzilla movies has ever been able to overcome this masterpiece. It still holds its place on top after many decades of it being made because at the time of release, it changed the whole landscape and people flocked to cinemas to witness this marvel, some say it was a good marketing gimmick but never less it is the inception of the cinema’s greate4st monster and thus putting it at the top is fair.

Shin Godzilla (2016)

godzilla movie tier list
Shin Godzilla

This is a highly controversial movie. It is a retelling of a 1954 Godzilla movie. But it narrates the story like it’s never been narrated before. It has a depth that is rarely seen in other movies. A conflict arose among the audience. People divided into controversy if it were an excellent work of excellence and brilliance or an utter work of satire on the whole work of Godzilla.

The story is different than the one in 1954. It doesn’t hold any connection to the first Kaiju Gojira movie. It even holds a connection to the great Tsunami of Japan in 2011.  Conclusively, it is a sheer modernization of a vintage movie.

With its grotesque and gory battles and true scenic visuals making it our second-best movie, the new remake with a modern look and a real-life tragedy mixed together, makes it a very fun ride.

IMDb Rating 6.8
Director Hideaki Anno, Shinji Higuchi

Godzilla vs. Kong

godzilla movie tier list
Godzilla vs. Kong

This 2021 masterpiece and workmanship of Warner Bros. Production holds the two most popular and Sturdy monsters of all time, Godzilla and King Kong. They both are known for their fierceness and unlimited power. This movie shows amazing visuals of combat scenes ever seen on television. When Godzilla Kaiju, resurfaces, he becomes the harbinger of chaos and mayhem.

He sees nothing but pure and raw rage. His longing for destruction makes him destroy everything that comes his way. Kong rises as the savior of mankind and puts Godzilla down. This movie is a true depiction of an action film. The CGI used in this movie is as real and during the pandemic, this movie came as a relief for the fans of the franchise and gave them some much-needed satisfaction by not disappointing in any aspect. This has one of the cinema’s greatest fights between Godzilla and King Kong, and you will only get to know about it once you watch the movie, no spoilers shhh!

A Tier

Godzilla movie tier list
A Tier

A Tier has movies that are worth watching. They are just as great as the movies in the S tier but they have a storyline gap that makes them come a bit short from the S tier by no means they are bad movies, you will see the sheer dedication the teams have put into them and will certainly not see disappointment at the end of the movies.

The movies of A Tier are worth it. They have drama, pain, and most importantly action and thriller. These movies breathe in gore and melancholy. The fight scenes will have you on the edge of your seat. This tier of our Godzilla movie tier list might make it over our S Tier movies as they are very hard to set apart.

This fourth creation in the Godzilla franchise is a great film. It has the storyline of a mother who loves saving her offspring from the monsters of the world. This movie speaks of true action. It resembles ‘Goldfinger’ which was a James Bond movie that also broke records of the previous movies made under its name.

This movie did wonders in the Hollywood film industry. It helped the industry gain its name back after the first Monster verse movie that ruined the Godzilla franchise altogether. This movie had some amazing fight scenes between the monsters of the Gojira franchise.

It had an amazing storyline and the actors in this movie added spark to it. Millie Bobby Brown’s appearance in the movie hyped its production. The combat scene of the three monsters, Godzilla, Mothra, and Ghidorah hung in the minds of the people as it helped them feed their gore-hungry minds.

B Tier

Godzilla Movie Tier List
B Tier

B Tier is a tier rank that has movies that are still quite watchable but have some drawbacks to the storyline and scenes that make them worse than the S and A Tier movies. They, too have some great fight scenes.

The movies of the B Tier have great storylines but some scenes and storylines have some plot holes that didn’t get them a spot in the higher tiers. The drawbacks made them fit in the B Tier but these movies are still Godzilla fans’ favorites.

Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S (2003)

godzilla movie tier list
Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S

This illustration of Godzilla of 2003 is quite intriguing. This storyline revolves around Godzilla, Mothra, and Mechagodzilla. The fairy minions of Mothra inform the government of Japan about the intentions of Godzilla and this induces a fight between the three gigantic monsters. This movie lacked a bit of originality.

The direction of Masaaki Tezuka helped gain its popularity. This movie is also a treat for the Mothra fans as it connects with 1961 standalone of Mothra. The fans loved to see the grudge between Godzilla and Mothra.

IMDb Rating 6.5
Director Masaaki Tezuka, Koji Hashimoto, Takao Okawara

Godzilla vs. Destroyah (1995)

godzilla movie tier list
Godzilla vs. Destroyah

It’s difficult to decide what makes this movie one of the great movies in the Godzilla franchise. Whether it’s the illustration of Godzilla as the burning Godzilla which was new to the franchise or whether it is the terrifying and monstrous depiction of the Destroyah. At first glance at the Destroyah people have their hands on their eyes to stop themselves from getting more scared.

These types of stuff helped this movie gain quite a lot of reviews. This movie also showed Godzilla Jr. as a pretty nice fellow while in all other movies he had a very weird role to him. This movie is great and a favorite for many people.

IMDb Rating 6.9
Director Takao Okawara, Ishirô Honda, Koji Hashimoto

Godzilla final wars (2004)

godzilla movie tier list
Godzilla final wars

This decisive film of Godzilla speaks wonders. This movie is overstuffed with all sorts of things. The director had a view to awestruck the audience out of their minds and with this intention, he added all sorts of creatures and fights in the movie. This didn’t have a good impact on the audience.

Instead of wowing them, it turned their heads a bit. But true Godzilla fans got a huge reward from this. They got many villains and Godzilla himself in the film. The movie has great fight scenes and the fight between Godzilla and his American cousin, Zilla, is the highlight of the whole movie.

IMDb Rating 6.3
Director Ryûhei Kitamura, Koji Hashimoto, Shûsuke Kaneko

C Tier

Godzilla Movie Tier List
C Tier

This tier rank has the movies that still have great reviews and gave really fine visuals of wars. But they don’t compete that well with the movies in the table preceding it because of weak plots and some below-average plot holes.

The movies of this tier have many drawbacks and besides this, they are hurried and unsymmetrical. With many unfinished scenes and irregularities. The Godzilla franchise fans love these movies nonetheless.

Destroy all monsters (1968)

godzilla movie tier list
Destroy all monsters

As the name indicates, this movie has all the monsters. This film served the Godzilla franchise on a silver platter. They got to see the monsters they were quite familiar with, like Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan. Additionally, the viewers also got to catch a view of some pythonic creatures like the sea behemoth, Mandra. This movie showed the involvement of the United Nations to try to stop such colossal creatures who were havoc among the people of the world.

Invasion of Astro Monster (1965)

godzilla movie tier list
Invasion of Astro Monster

This movie introduced the Sci-fi theme to the Godzilla franchise. It was the 6th movie in the Godzilla franchise. Its storyline revolves around the sunglasses-wearing aliens. They request the people of Earth to borrow Godzilla and Rodan for a while. But this has poor consequences. They cause a whole lot of destruction everywhere. This movie stars Nick Adams, who was not unfamiliar with the Godzilla franchise as he had already starred in a movie of the franchise once before.

Godzilla raids again (1955)

godzilla movie tier list
Godzilla raids again

This movie is notable for the introduction of a new enemy to Godzilla called Anguirus. In the later movies, he becomes one of the favorite enemies of the Godzilla franchise fans. This movie is a quite rushed depiction of Godzilla. It has no symmetry in conveying the movie. All its scenes are cut short and the fight scenes are unnecessary.

D Tier

Godzilla movie Tier list
D Tier

This tier rank of our Godzilla movie tier list has the movies that are on the last rung of the ranking stairs. The movies have many plot holes and don’t have many reviews, but for a fan of the Godzilla franchise, they are a huge deal. The movies in this tier are considered the lowest of all the other movies. They have many problems with their storylines, and fight scenes, and convey the whole movie very badly to the viewers.

To save the world from the chaos of the mantises, Godzilla and his son get to work to stop him from putting people’s lives in jeopardy. This movie by Jun Fukuda is one of the silliest and the most stupid in the Godzilla franchise.

IMDb Rating 5.2

All monsters attack (1969)

This work of Ishirō Honda of the Godzilla franchise is considered the worst of the worst production. It is about a boy who befriends Godzilla’s son Manilla to escape the depression parts of his life. The movie is true to be considered a piece of garbage. Due to Budget problems, scenes from old movies were taken. To add insult to injury, the costumes are worse than ever.
