Last month, Amazon Games announced that it had signed a publishing agreement with Disruptive Games, a fully-remote game development company that has co-developed games like Godfall from Counterplay Games and Diablo II: Resurrected from Blizzard Entertainment. Amazon Games and Disruptive Games announced that they would be working on a “never-before-seen online multiplayer action-adventure game based on new intellectual property” but no further details were revealed besides this.
However, that’s not the case anymore, as recent job listings on the Disruptive Games website reveal that the upcoming game might just be a first-person shooter, that’s also free-to-play, based on Unreal Engine 5.
Earlier today, we came across a few recent job listings on the Disruptive Games website, that provide some more details about the “never-before-seen online multiplayer action-adventure game.” One of the job listings on the company’s website is for the Senior Producer position, the description for which reads, “Disruptive Games is a veteran development studio specializing in multiplayer and online experiences.
We are an independently owned studio working on a AAA, fully-funded title with original IP! We’re expanding our fully-remote team with people who share our passion for collaborative, multiplayer gameplay.” Hence, it’s a no-brainer that this is the same project that the company is working on with Amazon Games.
While all of this has been announced, one of the Bonus Points that the candidate could have mentioned is a “passion for Free-to-Play or service-based PC and console games,” suggesting that the upcoming game from Disruptive Games may just be a free-to-play one.
Furthermore, it also mentions a “direct knowledge of gameplay mechanics, monetization systems, and other aspects used in the core designs of live service games” (emphasis on “monetization systems”), which suggests that the upcoming game could have microtransactions, a feature that’s criticized among most players but one that is common of online multiplayer games, particularly free-to-play ones.
Another job listing on the company’s website is for the Lead Audio Designer, the description for which is the same as the previous job listing, which means that it is, of course, the same project.
However, what sets this job listing apart from the previous one is the Bonus Points section that mentions “FPS, weapon design, and multiplayer experience,” suggesting that the upcoming game may be a first-person shooter, a genre that Amazon Games has yet to traverse after the failures of its previously released shooting games.
Additionally, another job listing for the Disruptive Games website is for the QA Lead position with the same description, of course, the Bonus Points section which mentions “experience shipping single and multiplayer games.”
While the official announcement from Amazon Games does state that the upcoming game will be an online multiplayer one, this statement does indicate that it might have a single-player and/or campaign feature to it as well. However, this is not certain at the moment.
Lastly, another job listing on the company’s website for the Senior VFX Artist position for the same project, as obvious from the description, mentions, as one of the responsibilities, that the candidate will “build visual effects using UE5’s Cascade or Niagara editor, the Material editor, and the Blueprints system,” which means that the upcoming game will be based on Epic Games’ proprietary next-generation game engine, Unreal Engine 5.
Additionally, another one of the candidate’s responsibilities includes working “with the art director to design spells, environmental effects, and sci-fi effects,” suggesting that the upcoming game may have science-fiction elements, such as witchcraft (“spells”), to it as well.
At the moment, this is all we know about the soon-to-be-released online multiplayer action-adventure game from Disruptive Games and Amazon Games. While the company stated in the official announcement that further details about the project would be revealed soon, these recent job listings on the Disruptive Games website give us some insight as to what players can expect. It seems like the upcoming game is still in its development stages, so it would take a while before more information is unveiled.
