Respawn Entertainment announced several projects almost a year ago, including the upcoming Star Wars FPS. Until now, we have barely had any details regarding the game other than the first-person shooter experience. However, our team at TopTierList found a recent job listing that hints towards the game having a multiplayer aspect.
However, we cannot confirm whether the final version would have this feature, as it is only indicated in the listing and not officially announced. Still, it is a strong possibility, which is all we need right now.
The job listing is titled Senior Gameplay Software Engineer – C++ (Star Wars FPS) and goes through the many things expected of this role. One of the desired qualifications included “Experience working on a multiplayer game.”
Major Points
- Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming Star Wars FPS will likely include multiplayer.
- As it isn’t officially announced, we can’t completely confirm it; However, the possibility is strong.
- This might set the Star Wars franchise perfectly for gaming, as we have several games coming up with high potential.
Electronic Arts, Respawn Entertainment’s parent organization, announced the game on 25th January 2022. The name is likely tentative, but they set high expectations with their statement, “Leading the development of Respawn’s all-new Star Wars first-person shooter game is Peter Hirschmann, Game Director at Respawn, who has a long and accomplished history with the Star Wars franchise.”
Respawn Entertainment already has a successful portfolio with some of the Star Wars games, including Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Therefore, it is the perfect studio to lead such projects.
However, one thing we have missed in those earlier projects is the multiplayer aspect. Additionally, the upcoming Jedi: Survivor will also not support multiplayer. The reason for that is simply because of the game’s narrative. It supports single-player, and not many people have complained about that. But the wish to experience a new multiplayer Star Wars game is there.
Not to mention, a Star Wars title with FPS would be a different case. Such a title would be ideal to have multiplayer, and although the studio did not confirm that before, the job listing strongly favors that possibility.
Still, it would be wise not to read too much into it since they haven’t confirmed it themselves. But the indications are clear, as one of the desired qualifications for the job includes “experience working on a multiplayer game.”
Considering how most of the other qualifications match the things that have been confirmed, multiplayer seems like a logical addition. The studio has more than enough experience with multiplayer games, including Apex Legends, and Titanfall, both being some of their most successful titles.
We should also add that such a feature is not surprising, as most FPS games have multiplayer. It unlocks the potential for new game modes and even the PvP aspect, which is a favorite for most gamers. It opens up the gate to almost endless content as they battle each other or fight alongside to defeat an even greater threat.
Even if we expected the game to have this feature, it is good to know that the studio is actively working on it. But what are your expectations for the Star Wars FPS game?
