Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play MMORPG(Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) developed by Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase. It is an installment in the Diablo series, set between Diablo II and III. The player controls a character from one of the in-game classes.
These classes include Barbarian, Wizard, Necromancer, Crusader, Monk, or Demon Hunter. The goal is to destroy the hidden shards of Worldstone, to prevent the Lord of Damnation “Skarn” from destroying the world of Sanctuary.
At the time of its announcement, Diablo Immortal received massive criticism as fans wanted an installment for PC. After the release, the game had very mixed reviews. Some people were optimistic about the game, while others started noticing some things “unfair” in the game. Aside from the plot, voice acting, and combat mechanics, the criticism was directed towards the microtransactions.
The game had a lot of issues with the microtransactions, making it worse than some notable Gacha games. People spent tens of thousands of dollars to get items, which is a bit too much. Some fans did the maths and found that the total amount required to max out in Diablo Immortal would be anywhere from $400,000-$600,000, depending on how lucky you are.
However, the game is still doing great, and the latest statistic shows that clearly.
How long does it take some IPs to Generate $100m? Sensor Tower gives these statistics. Diablo Immortal is ranked 13th in the revenue-generating mobile games. During its first eight weeks, it has ranked 4th mobile RPG for global spending and 2nd MMORPG, just behind Fantasy Westward Journey.
Further details show that these numbers do not include the revenue generated from China. The game was released there on the 25th of July. It was already on top of the charts during its initial days, ranking 1st most downloaded game on Apple Store. It is the 3rd most grossing game in the country.
The USA is the most revenue-generating country for Diablo Immortal. South Korea stands at 2nd, and Japan is the 3rd. These enormous numbers show how Blizzard has turned the situation upside down.
Once the sales from China are included in the following sales report, we might be surprised again.
