Take-Two Hiring For “Stylized Science-Based Adventure Game”

Take-Two Interactive is one of the most recognised video game holding companies across the world, with subsidiaries that include the likes of 2K and Rockstar Games. The company is behind some of the most critically and culturally acclaimed games of the century, such as the Grand Theft Auto and Mafia franchises. With the calibre that the company has, it’s no secret that Take-Two Interactive almost constantly has unannounced projects under development, and it seems like one of those is a “stylized science-based adventure game” with “explorable worlds” and “environmental storytelling” from Intercept Games, one of the company’s more recently formed development studios.

In August 2019, Intercept Games and Take-Two Interactive announced Kerbal Space Program 2, a sequel to the space flight simulation video game, Kerbal Space Program, developed by SQUAD and BlitWorks in 2011. However, the company got into a controversy in June 2020 after it cancelled a contract with Star Theory Games, the developer behind Kerbal Space Program 2, and hired more than half the team to form Intercept Games. Due to such controversies, the sequel has also seen a few delays, with the release scheduled for early 2023 now.

While players await the release of Kerbal Space Program 2, Intercept Games and Take-Two Interactive are currently focused on the development of another unannounced project, a “stylized science-based adventure game,” which seems to have just begun development. Earlier today, we came across a recent job listing on the Take-Two Interactive website for the Senior Environment Artist position at the company’s recently formed development studio in Seattle, Washington, in the United States, Intercept Games, the description for which reads, “Intercept Games is a Private Division/Take-Two development studio currently focused on the creation of Kerbal Space Program 2 as well as an unannounced stylized science-based adventure game.” From this, it’s clear that the company has an unannounced project currently under development by Intercept Games and one that’s similar to Kerbal Space Program 2.

“We have a deep love for space, simulation, strategy, and of course all things video games,” it continues. It seems like the unannounced project will, once again, be a space simulation video game, just like Kerbal Space Program 2. Furthermore, the job listing also states, “Do you possess a keen attention to detail and passion for environmental storytelling?” Hence, it can be inferred that there will be a narrative experience involved, which will be told through the game’s environment(s).

However, this isn’t all, as one of the responsibilities for the candidate mentions, “Work closely with the Art Lead and Concept Artist to translate the game’s visual design language into explorable worlds,” so the unannounced project may seemingly feature an open-world attribute to it, as can be inferred from the “explorable worlds.” Kerbal Space Program also featured an extensive open world, so this unannounced project will likely follow the same direction.

Lastly, the unannounced project will also feature rocketry, as is obvious from one of the requirements of the candidate. “Passion for space exploration, rocketry, worldbuilding, and related entertainment media,” it states. Hence, like Kerbal Space Program, this unannounced project will also likely rely on rockets for exploration of the game’s environment(s). Since Kerbal Space Program features designing your own rockets or planes and sending them out into space, Intercept Games could possibly take a similar course with this one as well. Additionally, the requirement also corroborates that this unannounced project will have space exploration in it.

At the moment, unfortunately, these are all the details that we have about this “stylized science-based adventure game” with “explorable worlds” and “environmental storytelling” from Intercept Games and Take-Two Interactive since this seems to be a recently started project. However, based on the information that we have about it, this unannounced project probably points toward another instalment in the Kerbal Space Program franchise, but this isn’t certain. With time, more details may be unveiled by either Intercept Games or Take-Two Interactive itself, so players will probably have to wait for another few months (or even years) before they get an official announcement.
