Electric Square, founded in 2015 as a sibling studio to Studio Gobo, has been in collaboration with many companies, such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Xbox Game Studios, to name a few, on a few noteworthy projects, including Battlefield 2042, Miami Street, and even the soon-to-be-released Assassin’s Creed VR for Oculus VR platforms from Red Storm Entertainment and Ubisoft.
With such projects that the company currently has in development, we now have some details into another project that Electric Square may have under development, and this one seems to be a free-to-play AAA multiplayer racing game for console and mobile platforms.
Earlier today, we came across a few recent job listings on the Electric Square website, particularly for the company’s headquarters in Brighton, United Kingdom. One of the job listings on the company’s website is for the Producer position, the description for which reads, “We now have an opportunity for a Producer to join our new team, working on an exciting AAA console product based on a globally-recognized IP for a major publisher.” From this statement, it’s clear that the company currently has a AAA game for console platforms under development. However, it’s unclear as to which “globally-recognized IP” or “major publisher” it might be.
Furthermore, one of the qualifications mentioned in the job listing is that the candidate must have included “a minimum of one years’ high-level project and team management/coordination experience and experience of managing or coordinating F2P mobile projects,” suggesting that the upcoming game may not only be a free-to-play one but it might also be released on mobile platforms as well.
Another qualification for the candidate being “an enthusiastic gamer and good knowledge of multi-platform video games and the entertainment software industry” further clarifies that the upcoming game might just be a multi-platform one.
Additionally, one of the experiences mentioned in the job listing that the candidate could have is for “Live Operations,” which means that the upcoming game might not only be a free-to-play one for the console and mobile platforms, but it could also be a live-service one with multiplayer and cooperative elements to it.
Furthermore, another job listing for the Track Designer position on the Electric Square website gives us even more details as to what this upcoming game from the company might be, the description for which reads, “A Track Designer at Electric Square should have a creative imagination and a passion to design ground-breaking tracks for our new and exciting AAA console project.” As the name of the position and its description suggests, the “new and exciting AAA console project” could be related to the racing genre, something that Electric Square is already experienced in.
In addition to this, the qualifications that the candidate must have also emphasise that the upcoming game is, in fact, a racing game. “3+ years of experience on previous racing game development teams,” states the job listing as a requirement for the candidate. The job listing also requires the candidate to have a “high level of expertise and knowledge in motorsport and racing principles,” further consolidating that the upcoming game will be of the motorsport and/or racing genre.
Lastly, another job listing on the company’s website is for the Handling Designer position, the description for which reads, “ES Brighton is looking for an accomplished, enthusiastic and self-motivated Handling Designer to join our Brighton-based team working on an exciting, new and unannounced project.” While the job listing doesn’t specifically mention a console game in development as the previous job listings do, the details do confirm that this unannounced project is the same one.
One of the qualifications that the candidate could have mentioned “experience with multiplayer games,” which further indicates that this unannounced project might be a multiplayer one. Furthermore, another qualification that the candidate could have is an “understanding of AI drivers and how they interface with the handling model,” suggesting that there may be some sort of single-player elements to this unannounced game as well that require non-player characters (NPCs).
Unfortunately, these are all the details we have about this unannounced console and/or mobile project from Electric Square at the moment. It seems like the upcoming game will be based on an already recognized franchise from a prominent company, but it’s unclear as to what either of those could be.
In August 2018, Electric Square was acquired by Keywords Studios and has since released games for PC and mobile platforms, like Forza Street and Detonation Racing, while also co-developing games like Battlefield 2042 from Electronic Arts and Sniper Elite 5 from Rebellion Developments.
