Canceled projects are one of the only things we can not help with. While we do have a great love for some franchises or video development companies but some projects are just unable to see the light of the day.
Ubisoft is one of the most successful video game development companies as it has brought us some notable titles, including Assassin’s Creed, For Honor, Just Dance, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, etc. One game that could have been part of their vast arsenal is “Project Ion”, which was unfortunately canceled for unknown reasons.
Luckily, we have some pictures that give us an insight into what kind of game it could have been:
These are the warp gates, and while we do not know their role, we can guess from their name and design. The player will likely use them to teleport or “move” at hyper-speed through space and get to a location much faster.
The designs are clean, and it looks like there are many different designs so that the in-game product would have looked even more promising.
This is a location from the game, and no further details have been given, but we can see that the environment and coloring are heavily affected by the planetary system and near stars. These details are not a necessity in every game, but when they are implemented, they just make it 10x times better.
It may not look like it, but this is likely the same place from 2nd image, but with different lighting. It is unclear why there is a change of color in the near star, but it adds more depth to the environment and makes the universe feel more “alive”, and not just empty.
This is the same place, but this time we have more labels to show the more minor details that may or may not be interactable. There are re-fueling dock hubs, some ships near them, an energy source, and some traffic lights and vehicles to depict a civilization.
Ion seems to be the name of the technology, material, or maybe some sort of aircraft that is the game’s main focus. This image shows an open warp gate; if you look at the top-right, you can see how the gate opens and changes its shape to show its progression.
This image gives a more in-depth look at the surface of the “Ion”. It looks very advanced and adds further detailing to the game, which is always welcome. The player could have seen this up-close while traveling close to the warp gate.
This image shows another look at the “Ion”, but from a different side. It looks incredible and may be the main focus of the game. Furthermore, the red color adds some sort of danger to this craft, which would have been interesting to see in the game.
The details are phenomenal, and it makes us sad knowing that we won’t be able to enjoy this game. But this isn’t the first time we have felt that. Canceled projects are normal and we just have to accept this reality.
There is nothing we can do about it, but supporting the company may bring the possibility of these concepts coming out in a later project. Until then, if you have any questions do let us know down in the comments section.
