Halo Infinite is perhaps one of the most infamous games, and knowing that it comes from the Halo series, a very successful franchise, it is almost hard to believe. But many factors contributed to that downfall, one of the most important being cut content.
Halo Infinite could have been entirely different, which might have changed some of the bad reputations. The amount of content that was cut from the game is absurd, and one prominent example is the message they left us in Halo 5.
There is an argument that for something to be cut from the game, it needs to be planned first, and if this isn’t enough evidence for planning, nothing is. 343 Industries themselves showed this message at the end of Halo 5.
The message read as:
To our fans.
Thank you all for playing Halo 5: Guardians. We are absolutely humbled by your passion and drive, and honored to receive your support. We couldn’t have done this without you.
We look forward to the next step in our Great Journey together. See you on Sanghelios!
343 Industries.
They had this planned, and the words “See you on Sanghelios!” meant that there was supposed to be some storyline on that planet that should have been part of Halo Infinite. However, we never saw that as it was cut before we experienced it.
These images are concept arts from Josh Kao and Sam Brown, and since their involvement is well-known in the game’s development, we can see how serious this was back then. But since it has been cut, no one is talking about it, and it’s almost as if they swept it under the rug.
Moreover, over 66% of the content was cut from the game, and the biggest reason for that was the staffing problems at 343 Industries. More than half of the staff for this game consisted of contractors, and unfortunately, Microsoft limits the contractors from working in a job for over 18 months.
That means that the staff kept changing, resulting in so much mess that 343 is still suffering from it; they are promising to improve this problem as we move forward. More details on their statement were discussed in our news about their downfall.
Another problem they faced was the problem with fiefdoms. Fiefdoms were handling the game’s development in 343, and because of the lack of cooperation and taking conflicting decisions, it was almost as if they were each making a game of their own.
The peak of this crisis was in 2019 when they decided to cut the content, and the game turned from being an open-world like Breath of the Wild to something much smaller. Microsoft also put pressure on 343 to release the game in 2020.
At that point, it was a race just to finish the game without any content and face the consequences they are still experiencing. We can only hope that it gets better in the future with newer seasons. There is some hope, as discussed before.
They are working on adding many new things, including the weapons; Armament Blaster, Brute Spiker, Bandit Rifle, and Machine Guns. Some other features will make it into the game, including the Tether Distance and the Object Scaling, which we are very excited about.
What do you think they should have done to keep the game at least somewhat playable? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
