We Will Be Ranking All 151 Pokemon In Gen 1 With This Article.

There are few properties in the world as big and iconic as the Pokemon franchise, something that has had a presence in almost all forms of digital media over the past 20 years. And so with our Pokemon Gen 1 tier list, we intend to rank each and every single one of the original roster of monsters. Here we will be discussing the original 151 creatures, and we will rank them from S to D based on their various strengths and weaknesses. 

Gen 1 is famous for having some of the most iconic Pokemon of all time. Take Pikachu and Charizard, for example, two monsters that are absolute staples of the series and are almost consistently ranked as some of the most popular in any Pokemon list. And although there are over a hundred more of them, we will still try our best to do them all justice.

The first category on our list is the S tier. These Pokemon can not be seen abundantly in nature, are legendary, have superb abilities, and are placed in the S tier. These Pokemon are powerful enough to knock down every other Pokemon. 

Let’s take a look at all the top-notch Pokemon.

Mewtwo

Mewtwo is a psychic type Pokémon, and it has not been seen to evolve, but it can go for mega evolution upon certain conditions. The genetics of this Pokémon matches Mew.

 Mew

Mew is one of its kind because it does not evolve into any other type of Pokémon. It comes only during Nintendo events and can synchronize. Mew is a psychic type Pokémon.

Besides, all three dark, bug, and ghost are its weaknesses. The best thing about Mew is that it can convert itself into anything it wishes for and hide when required. 

Alakazam

Alakazam is an intelligent psychic-type Pokémon with the ability to affect technology around it with the help of brainwaves. It has the same strengths and weaknesses as that Abra and Kadabra. When Kadabra is exposed to a linking cord, Alakazam is produced.

Blastoise

The evolved form of Squirtle and Wartortle, Blastoise is the next S tier of the Pokemon Gen 1 shiny Tier List. It is a water pokemon capable of causing destruction using its water cannons at its shoulders. Blastoise also has incredible defensive abilities and is the evolved form of Squirtle and wartortle. 

Nidoking

The last Pokemon which we have placed in the S tier is Nidoking. It is the evolved form of Nidoran and Nidorino. Nidoking uses its super-powerful tail to attack enemies and destroy objects. Lastly, Nidoking’s ability to use thunderbolt and hyper beam makes it the best. 

Nidorino

Nidorino is a Poison-type Pokémon with the same abilities as before the evolution. It further evolves into Nidoking using the Moonstone.

Pickachu

Pikachu is an Electric type Pokémon presented in Generation 1, known as the Mouse Pokémon. It is strong against steel and weak against the Ground. It further evolves to Raichu using a thunderstone.

Articuno

Articuno is an ice/flying type legendary Pokémon. It is the first member of the legendary trio in Pokémon.

Zapdos

Zapdos is an electric /flying type legendary Pokémon. It is the second member of the legendary trio in Pokémon. 

Moltres

Moltres is a legendary fire/flying type Pokémon. It is the third member of the legendary bird trio

Machoke

Machoke naturally evolves into Machamp at level 36 and has the super strength of lifting heavy weights. It is also a fighting-type Pokémon.

Machamp

Machamp possesses four arms that can punch about a thousand times in a couple of seconds. It evolves from Machoke which itself evolves from Machop

Weepinbell

Weepinbell possesses a hook at its tail end, which it uses to claw trees for sleeping, but on waking up, it finds itself on the Ground due to the breeze. It evolves into Victreebel and has chlorophyll as an ability.

Tentacool

Tentacool is a water/poison type Pokémon, and it is mostly just water which is why it withers up when into the water. Evolves into Tentacruel at level 30 with an ability to liquid ooze and transparent body.

Slowbro

Slowbro is the evolved form of Slowpoke, and it manages to evolve only when a Shellder bites its tail.

Magnemite

Magnemite is an electric/steel type of Pokémon and begins the evolution at level 30 into Magneton. It could magnetically pull and has sturdiness but is afraid of Fighting, Fire, and Ground.

Magneton

Magneton is another electric/steel-type Pokémon that evolves into Magnezon at level 30 in the vicinity of a magnetic field or with the help of thunder stone in later games.

Farfetch’d

Farfetch’d do not evolve further, and it is a normal/flying type Pokémon with a duck-like structure. It can die over its shoot and fight for the best ones. It has a green onion stalk which is used as a weapon. 

Dodrio

With Dodrio evolution of the normal/flying type ends, and it becomes a three-headed Pokémon. Three heads are used to express joy, sorrow, and anger while planning and one of the heads stay awake while Dodrio is resting.

Duduo

Duduo is a normal/flying type Pokémon with a skilful running capability compared to flying. It can race up to 60mph and has two heads. It evolves into Dodrio at level 31.

The next category that comes after the S tier is the A tier. It includes Pokemon, which are great, but compared to S-tier pokemon, they are relatively weak. These Pokemon have unique strengths but have one or two flaws, making them slightly more vulnerable.

Bulbasaur

The frog-like grass-type Pokemon, Bulbasaur, is the first A-tier character on our list. 

Bulbasaur’s agility is impressive, and by using a power whip, it can jump high in the air and hit targets with brutal force. The only drawback is its moves against fire-type Pokemon. 

Charmander

Charmander is a fire-type, human-friendly Pokemon which is known for its aggression. It is a shy pokemon but once trained, and it can fight Pokemon twice its size.

It is known as the Lizard Pokémon. It evolves into Charmelon at level 16 and Charizard at level 32.

Squirtle

Squirtle is a water-type pokemon that has some extraordinary abilities. It uses a Bubble attack that causes significant damage to enemies. It Evolves to Wartotle at level 16 and Blastoise at level 32.

With all these incredible abilities, Squirtle cannot fight electric-type Pokemon. 

Charizard

Charizard is one of the most popular and powerful Pokemon. It is a Fire/Flying type that was first introduced in Generation 1, and has since been one of the most recognized monsters of them all.

Beedrill

The next A-tier character is Beedrill, a bee-type pokemon capable of causing tremendous amounts of damage to opponents. It is the evolved form of Kakuna and Weedle.

Beedrill uses poisonous stingers to attack its enemies. It does not do well against ghost, Fire, and rock-type Pokemon.

Golem

Golem is known for its ability to roll down the mountains and appears as a giant boulder having all three features, including head, arms, and legs. Lastly, Golem is vulnerable to water-type Pokemon as they are more dominant over it. 

Pidgeotto

Pidgeotto, a Normal/Flying type Pokémon introduced in Generation 1, is known as the Bird Pokémon. It further evolves into a Pidgeot at level 36. its strengths and drawbacks are similar to the type before evolution.

Starmie

Evolved from Staryu at level 36, a water pokemon, Starmie is more of a water and psychic-type character. Starmie’s water gun is one of its best attacks, and its speed is impressive. 

 It does not evolve further. It is considered an enigmatic character and seems like a sea star.

Lapras

It is a water-type pokemon and is an intelligent creature capable of reading human minds. Lapras is also a water/ice-type Pokémon that can learn the HM surf and carry you around on its back in the Gen 1 games.

Dratini

Dratini is a dragon-type Pokémon that was almost undiscovered until a fisherman pulled it out of the ocean after a hectic 10 hours of fishing. It evolves at level 30 into Dragonair. 

Aerodactyl

Aerodactyl is considered a fossil Pokémon and was rejuvenated from amber. It is a rock/flying type with no evolution but has a mega evolution into mega Aerodactyl. It has a rock head and pressure ability.

Dragonair

Dragonair is a dragon-type Pokémon that evolves from Dratini at level 30 into Dragonite at level 55. It can shed skin. Weaknesses of Dragonair include fairy, Ice, and dragon.

Dragonite

Dragonite is a dragon/flying type of Pokémon which evolves into Dragonair type at level 55. As it is a dragon type, it can also fly and use dragon moves.

Electabuzz

Electabuzz is an electric type of Pokémon which evolves from Elekid and evolves into Electrivire. It can gather energy when it comes closer to the plants.

Magmar

Magmar is a fire-type Pokémon that evolves from Magby and evolves into Magmortar. It was listed as the 8th best among all the fire-type Pokémon.

Pinsir

Pinsir is a bug-type Pokémon, and it undergoes Mega evaluation. It has enormous horns, which it uses to throw things.

Koffing

Koffing is a poison-type creature that evolves into Weezing at level 35. It is based on wind pollution and can explode when inflation increases beyond a limit.

Weezing

Weezing is a poison-type Pokémon that comes after the evolution of Koffing at level 35. 

Rhyhorn

Rhyhorn is a ground rock type of Pokémon which evolves into Rhydon at level 42. 

Rhydon

Rhydon evolves from Rhyhorn at level 42 into Rhyperior and has the ability of light head along with rock head. Weaknesses of Rhydon include Grass, steel, Ice, Ground, Fighting, and water. 

Tangela

Tangela is a grass-type Pokémon, and it evolves into Tangrowth Pokémon. Tangela can entangle anything that comes close to it. It has the chlorophyll ability and leaf guard. 

Kangaskhan

Kangaskhan is a normal type of Pokémon, and it was the second creation of Game Freak. It can carry its baby in the pouch until it grows older. Kangaskhan evolves into Mega Evolution.

 Horsea

Horsea is a water-type Pokémon that evolves into Seadra at level 37. Horsea has a fear of washing away, so it curls its tail around the coral branches.

Seadra

Seadra is a water-type Pokémon that evolves from Horsea and evolves into Kingdra at level 32. 

Goldeen

Goldeen is a water-type Pokémon that evolves into Seaking at level 33. Water veil and swirl swift are its abilities. 

Seaking

Seaking is also a water-type Pokémon that evolves from Goldeen at level 33. It ends the evolution of its kind here. Its abilities and weaknesses match Goldeen.

B Tier

The next category in our article is the B tier, where you will find some cool pokemon in the B tier. The Pokemon mentioned in this category have above-average performance levels and some flaws that make them weak. These are still great entires and can help you out extensively in a Pokemon gen 1 nuzlocke tier list.

So let’s take a dive and explore all the B-tier Pokemon. 

Venasaur

The first B-tier Pokemon on our list is Venasaur. It is the evolved form of Bulbasaur and Ivysaur. Venasaur is a combination of grass and poison-type pokemon with some excellent abilities. 

The disadvantages associated with Venasaur are its weight which impacts its speed significantly. 

Ivysaur

The next character in B-tier is Ivysaur, the evolved form of Bulbasaur. It is a grass-type pokemon with attacks that can defeat enemies in one shot. 

Ivysaur is weak against Fire, ice, psychic, and flying type pokemon, so we have placed it in the B-tier. 

Snorlax

The evolved form of Munchlax, Snorlax is a giant pokemon with incredible strengths. It can use the hyper beam to tear down enemies, and body slam is another solid move of Snorlax.

Snorlax is always sleeping; waking it up requires time and effort. Secondly, its agility is not impressive. 

Wartortle

 It is a water-type pokemon and the evolved form of Squirtle. Wartortle can use the hydro pump to damage its opponents.

Wartortle’s inability to fight effectively against the grass and electric-type pokemon makes it weak.

Seel

Seel is a water-type Pokémon and evolves into Dewgong at level 34 and can thicken fat and hydration but fears Grass and electricity. Its design is based on real-life seal features. Seel can also make a hole in the Ice to breathe. 

Dewgong

It is a water/ice type of Pokémon, and the evolution of this category ends here. Real-life dugong inspires design.

Grimer

Grimmer is a poison-type Pokémon with a slippery body that can slip into almost anything. It evolves into Muk at level 38. It can sneak and good hold and is afraid of Psychic and the Ground.

 Muk

Muk ends the evolution of poison-type Pokémon, and it smells pathetic that it can cause others to faint. And has the same strengths and weaknesses as Grimer. 

Shellder

Shellder is a water-type Pokémon that evolves into Cloyster at level 36 with an ability of shell armour and skill link but fear of Grass and electricity. It sticks out its long pink tongue when it sleeps.

Cloyster

Cloyster is a water/ice-type Pokémon and can rotate at an angle of 180 degrees which is the only feature that makes it different from Shellder.

Gastly

Gastly is a ghost/poison-type Pokémon with the ability to hide under structures to stop the blowing effect of air. It converts into Haunter at level 25 with the help of Arceus.

Haunter

After evolution from Gastly, Haunter, which is also a ghost/poison type-evolves into Gengar level 36. Haunter can lick, which helps sap the victim’s life. 

Gengar

Gengar is the last member of its evolution and is said to be a human ghost. It has the ability of a cursed body and Levitates with the fear of the dark, spirits, and psychics.

Onix

Onix is a rock/ground type Pokémon, and one of the most iconic ground types in the entire franchise.

Clefable

Clefable is a Normal/Fairy type Pokémon presented in Generation 1, known as the Fairy Pokémon. It has the power to fight and is robust against dragons and bugs.

Vulpix

It is a Fire type of Pokémon which was introduced in Generation 1. It is also known as the Fox Pokémon. It is strong against steel, Fire, and Ice and weak against Ground and rock. 

Ninetales

It is a Fire type of Pokémon which was introduced in Generation 1. It is also known as the Fox Pokémon. It is strong against Grass, Fire, and Ice and weak against Ground, rock, and water.

Jigglypuff

Jigglypuff is a Normal/Fairy type Pokémon known as a Balloon  Pokémon. It is strong against Ghosts and Dragons and weak against Poison and Steel. 

Golbat

Golbat is also a poison/flying type Pokémon, but it is a dual type of creature. Its evolution occurs at level 22 from Zubat, and upon a high friendship level, it is converted into Corbat. 

Oddish

A grass/poison type Pokémon has a fantastic ability to burry itself into the soil for absorption of nutrients, and they are seen wandering at nighttime while shedding its seeds. It evolves into Gloom at level 21. 

Hitmonchan

Hitmonchan is a fighting type Pokémon that evolves from Tyrogue at level 20, and evolution ends here. Interestingly, the name of the Pokémon is based on the actor Jackie Chan.

Exeggutor

Exeggutor is a grass/psychic type Pokémon with three heads that think differently, and these heads often make it difficult for it to move. It evolves from Exeggcute at level 36 and ends the evolution process here.

Pidgey

Pidgey, introduced in Generation 1, is a Normal/Flying type Pokémon known as the Tiny Bird Pokémon. It evolves to Pidgeotto and Pidgeot at levels 18 and 36. 

Slowpoke

Slowpoke is a water/psychic Pokémon that is not really considered to be all that smart.

Gloom

Being another glass/poison type Pokémon, it is unique in its way as it gives a terrible reek due to leaves present on its head during a dangerous encounter. 

Vileplume

The category of Vileplume is grass/poison type that has the honour of having the biggest petals. This attracts prey, which is then immersed in toxic spores.

Paras

Paras is Bug/Grass type Pokémon that helps originate the Parasect Pokémon at level 24. Its weaknesses include Ice, Fire, bug, flying, rock, and Poison. 

Parasect

Thanks to Paras evolution, Parasect is created when a parasitic mushroom completely takes over the body of its generous host. Following that, it is also a Bug/Grass-type Pokémon.

Venonat

A bug/poison-type Pokémon can navigate in the dark, which is only possible due to its radar-like eyes. At level 31, it evolves into Venomoth.

Golduck

Psyduck is the evolved form of Golduck and is also a water-type Pokémon with the same abilities and weaknesses as its predecessor. But it is much smarter.

Venomoth

It is also a bug/poison type Pokémon since it evolves from Venonat. Its unique ability is that it can shed poisonous scales from its wings. Flying, rock, Fire, and psychic are its weaknesses.

Graveler

The second member of rock/ground type Pokémon seems like a big rock with four arms (two small and two large arms). It evolves into Golem at 36.

Poliwrath

It evolves from Poliwhirl, and it is water/fighting type Pokémon. The good news is that this Pokemon can go as far as the Pacific Ocean effortlessly. 

Ponyta

Ponyta is a fire-type Pokémon with the ability to choose to flame to burn humans or not. It is borns with weak legs and strengthens them by walking with parents. 

Drowzee

Drowzee evolves into Hypno at level 26, a psychic-type Pokémon. Remember, if you ever feel itchy after sleeping, then a Drowzee must have stolen your dreams, as insomnia is its best ability. It can also be a forewarning while dark, bugs, and ghosts make it fear the most.

Kingler

Kingler evolves from Krabby at level 28 and has a hyper cutter and armour as its abilities. Its weaknesses are water and Grass.

Electrode

Electrode is an electric-type Pokémon, and just like its predecessor Voltorb, is sort of a mysterious entity. 

Hitmonlee

Hitmonlee is a fighting-type Pokémon that evolves into Tyrogue at level 20. Its ability is that it is limber and reckless, but Psychic, fairy, and flying are its weaknesses. 

Mankey

Mankey is a fighting type of Pokemon with a short temper and the ability to fight aggressively. Upon being provoked, Mankey starts shaking and goes into a rage to attack its foes.

Primeape

Primeape is the evolved form of Mankey, and has many of the exact same fighting abilities. But it is larger in size.

Dugtrio

A ground/steel type Pokémon is also considered a triplet Diglett. Just like its parent Diglett Pokémon, the entire body of the Pokémon has never been seen.

C Tier

The third category on the list is the C tier, where you will find average Pokemon. The characters mentioned in the C-tier do not have excellent performances, but they are not entirely useless.

Charmeleon

The first C-tier character is Charmeleon which is the evolved form of Charmander. It is a fire-type pokemon with just a couple of good moves.

Caterpie

Caterpie is a Bug type of Pokémon known as the Worm Pokémon. It upgrades from Caterpie to Metapod at level 16 and Butterfree at level 32. 

Pidgeot

Pidgeot,  a Normal/Flying type Pokémon, is named the Bird Pokémon. It is strong against Ground and Grass and weak against rock and Ice.

Cubone

Cubone is a ground-type Pokémon that evolves into Marowak starting at level 28. It has a really depressing backstory.

Abra

Abra sleeps all the time, and it is also a psychic type, it can sense danger even while sleeping and has good teleportation capability. 

Kadabra

Kadabra is the evolved form of Abra and is also a psychic type. Unlike its predecessor, it can actually stay awake for a whole.

Nidoqueen

Nidoqueen, a Poison-type Pokémon, is known as the Poison Pin Pokémon. It gains no additional abilities after being evolved into this version.

Nidoran-m

Nidoran, a Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation 1, is also known as the Poison Pin Pokémon. It is vital in Fighting and being weak against the Ground. 

Persian

Persian is the evolution of Meowth and is one of the normal type Pokemon on the roster.

Psyduck

Psysuck is a water/psychic type that constantly feels headaches and evolves into Golduck at level 33. 

Growlithe

It is a fire-type Pokémon that evolves into Arcanice at level 36. It looks like a large fluffy dog and is very loyal.

Exeggcute

Exeggcute is a grass/psychic type Pokémon that evolves into Exxeggutor at level 36. Its weaknesses include bugs, dark, flying, Poison, Ice, Fire, and ghost.

Marowak

Marowak is a ground-type Pokémon that evolves from Cubone at level 28, ending the evolution line at that point.

Geodude

Geodude is a rock/ground type, and evolution starts here to get the first evolved creature, i.e., Graveler, at level 24 with the ability of rock head and sturdiness. 

Krabby

Krabby is a water-type Pokémon and evolves into Kingler at level 28 with an ability of hyper-cutting and shell armour. Electricity and Grass are their weaknesses.

Lickitung

Lickitung is a normal Pokémon with a long tongue that can be used as a weapon. It can also paralyse foes.

Raichu

Raichu is an Electric-type Pokémon shown in Generation 1, also known as the Mouse Pokémon. It has the same abilities as Pikachu.

Sandshrew

Sandshrew is a Ground type Pokémon which is known as the Mouse Pokémon. Sandshrew is strong against rocks and weak against water and Ice. 

Mr Mime

Mr Mime is a psychic/fairy-type Pokémon produced by the evolution of Mime Jr. It has the best-pantomiming capabilities in the world. 

Arcanine

A fire-type character that evolves from Growlithe. It is weak to water and ice like most others of its type.

Poliwag

Poliwag is a water-type Pokémon; water absorption and dampness are its strengths, while Grass and electricity are its weaknesses. 

Meowth

Here we have one of the most iconic normal-type Pokemon in the franchise, and this popularity is mostly due to the talking Meowth that appears in the anime.

Hypno

It evolves from Drowzee at level 26, and it can put people to sleep with the help of its pendulum polishing.

Voltorb

Voltorb is an electric-type Pokémon that evolves into Electrode at level 30, and it really resembles a Pokeball.

Tentacruel

Tentacruel is a water/poison type Pokémon, a jellyfish with multiple tentacles and possessing two beaks and jewels on its head.

Ditto

Ditto is a normal type of Pokémon that can transform into any Pokémon. Dittos are not effective against the ghost.

Eevee

Eevee is a normal type of Pokémon, and it has multiple different evolutions depending on the stone you use. And guess what? Eevee is also among the cutest entries on the list

Vaporeon

Vaporeon is a water-type Pokémon that evolves from Eevee Pokémon when exposed to water stone.

Jolteon

Jolteon is an electric-type Pokémon that evolves from Eevee Pokémon when exposed to thunder stone.

Flareon

Flareon is a fire-type Pokémon that evolves from Eevee Pokémon when exposed to firestone. 

Porygon

Porygon is a normal type and is one of the handful of man-made Pokemon in the world.

Omanyte

Omanyte is a rock/water-type Pokémon that evolves into Omastar at level 40. Its weaknesses include Grass, Ground, Fighting, and electricity.

Kabutops
