S Tier

Superior characters of the Star Wars
S Tier.

This rank of the Strongest Star Wars Characters Tier List consists of powerful characters in terms of power and are also favorites among all fandom fans.

Anakin Skywalker

Anakin Skywalker is my favorite character in the Star Wars franchise, and in my opinion, he is one of the strongest characters among Star Wars characters. I believe many of you have the same place for Anakin Skywalker in your heart as I do.

The Star Wars story is all about Anakin even George Lucas, the creator of this series has said that it’s always been about Anakin. Luke Skywalker merely acts as a catalyst to bring Anakin outside the Darth Vader phase. The whole story of Star Wars is about becoming a good person even when you have made bad choices in your life.

Star Wars is a space-action drama about father and son and tells you no matter what you have done. It’s never too late to make a change of heart, alter your life, and make your life what you want it to be; just because you’ve done bad things before doesn’t mean you have to keep doing awful things.

Darth Vader

He is the Sith Lord persona of Anakin Skywalker, a fallen Jedi Knight who turned to the dark side until the return of the Jedi events. He redeems himself by saving his son Luke Skywalker from his master Darth Sidious, thereby fulfilling the prophecy as the Chosen One.

Moreover, Darth Vader is a continuation of Anakin Skywalker’s story, who is now extremely powerful despite his injuries from his duel with his former master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Darth Vader is just a badass character with many fantastic scenes in the series, Notably the hallway scene in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and many others, such as destroying ATAT and surviving a mass explosion. He has a lot of experience in killing Jedi and probably killed more than any of these characters combined in this list.

As a result, Darth Vader is mighty powerful and has proven time and time again just how strong he is. He defeats Ahsoka, toying with Konan and Ezra and massacring the entire Jedi temple. Vader served as Emperor’s Sith apprentice throughout the Imperial Era, enforcing New Order’s power.

Darth Sidious

Darth Sidious, better known as Emperor, was a human male Dark Lord of Sith and Emperor of the Galactic Empire. He was born with the name Sheev Palpatine. Many fans of this fandom think that he is maybe the strongest Star Wars character. Anakin Skywalker probably would have defeated him if he had not gotten wrecked after his fight with Obi-Wan Kenobi or if he had not died prematurely as Darth Vader.

During clone wars, he defeated Darth Maul and Savage simultaneously without much trouble and beat Mother Talzin. Jedi masters essentially fought him killing two of them with one move and a fist and one with only a couple. He was around Yoda’s level during the revenge of the Sith, but he grew stronger as he learned more about the dark side. He was able to cloud the entire Jedi Order’s wish into the dark side of the Force and in the book lords of the Sith.

As senator of Naboo in the Galactic Senate, the secretive Sith Lord created two personas, Sidious and Palpatine, which he used to improve his political career and lie his way toward his ambition. During Clone Wars, he plotted the collapse of the Galactic Republic and Jedi Order, then established his rule over the galaxy, which lasted until his death at the Battle of Endor. The evil side of the Force gave rise to abilities that empowered Emperor to rise from the dead. Sidious had a solid connection to Force and was trained in Sith ways by Darth Plagueis in secret.

Yoda

Yoda was a renowned Jedi Master who saw the establishment and collapse of the Galactic Republic. He was a Force-sensitive male being of an undiscovered species. Yoda was indeed the Grand Master of the Jedi Order, training generations of Jedi and one of the strongest star wars characters in the Jedi Order. He was a crucial figure in Clone Wars, a revival of Jedi through Luke Skywalker, and the discovery secret to immortality. He lived through nine centuries of galactic history, making him the most important of all Star Wars characters.

His size was small, but he was respected for his wisdom and power. Yoda served as a Jedi General for three years, aiming to end the fight swiftly and decisively. Still, his efforts were hampered by Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith, who plotted to annihilate the Jedi Order and reestablish the Sith to power. He strengthened his dominance with the help of a new apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who later became Darth Vader.

Anakin’s son Luke Skywalker sought out the legendary Grand Master in the hope of becoming a Jedi Knight during his final years on the secluded planet of Dagobah. Yoda died of old age a year later, with his health quickly declining, and he became one with Force.

Mace Windu

Mace Windu is likely to be the second most powerful star wars character in the Jedi Order. Mace Windu was a renowned Force-sensitive human male Jedi Master and member of the Jedi High Council during the closing years of the Republic Era. During his tenure in the Jedi Order, he was chosen commander of the Jedi, and during the Clone Wars, he was a Jedi General in the Grand Army of the Republic. Windu served the Jedi and the Republic in many positions on the battlefield during the war, including leading the clone army.

In addition to that, Mace Windu was a formidable Jedi Master with advanced capabilities in lightsaber fighting and Force powers. He was recognized as a Jedi Order champion and one of the greatest lightsaber duelists ever. He was a well-known Form VII practitioner. It was the seventh and most unexpected style of lightsaber combat and the most aggressive. He had Force-enhanced reflexes and agility and the ability to see into the future as a Force user.

Windu was a master of several sorts of telekinesis, which he could use as an attack and defense. Windu was also skilled in hand-to-hand combat, having incapacitated several Gamorreans unarmed as a child.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The master of Anakin Skywalker, also known as Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi is not as strong as his disciple but is still one of the most powerful star wars characters in the Jedi Order. Making him a deserving character to be placed in the S-tier of Star Wars Characters Tier List . Old master Obi-Wan Kenobi is probably the best defensive duelist of all Star Wars characters. They send him to fight General Grievous, as they do not think there is anybody better to kill Grievous than Obi-Wan, and he did a fine job.

One of the series’ most essential battles was between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and probably the fight of his life. He manages to defeat him and severely injures him using the strategy of the high ground. Like other characters mentioned in this tier, he is not robust with Force, but he overcomes it with his other skills and abilities.

Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith was the masterful duelist able to outduel Grievous quickly and hold off pretty powerful Vader long enough to get an opening finally. He survived against Maul and Savage simultaneously during the clone wars, even cutting off Savage’s arms.

During the final years of the Republic Era, Obi-Wan was a legendary Force-sensitive human male Jedi Master who served on the Jedi High Council. During the Invasion of Naboo, Kenobi earned the rank of Jedi Knight by slaying the Sith Lord Darth Maul. After promising Jinn, who died in the lightsaber confrontation with Maul, he decided to train Anakin Skywalker.

A Tier

Best Characters of the Star Wars
A Tier.

The A rank consists of five characters that I think are good but not worthy enough to be put into the S rank.

Luke Skywalker

I know this is a controversial placement, but I used to have Luke much lower in my understanding of power level in Star Wars, but with the new canon Darth Vader has been giving big buffs, and the fact is that Luke beat Vader even though this was because Vader was conflicted and did not want to kill his son.

Furthermore, Luke Skywalker was a renowned Jedi Master who fought in the Galactic Civil War during the rule of the Galactic Empire. He was a Force-sensitive human male. Skywalker was a revolutionary who worked for the Alliance to Restore the Republic, a group dedicated to overthrowing the Galactic Empire and restoring democracy. Skywalker became a member of the Rebellion and began to study the ways of the Force under Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose first disciple was Luke’s father.

During the Battle of Endor, he faced the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who he later discovered was his father, Anakin Skywalker. Anakin reverted to the light side of the Force with Luke’s assistance, slaying Galactic Emperor at the cost of his own life, Darth Sidious, thereby fulfilling his destiny as the Chosen One. Luke was already strong enough to give Vader an intense fight in the return of the Jedi. He should have surpassed him by the time he reached his prime.

Ultimately, Luke created a space projection across the galaxy, which we have never seen anybody else do. Luke Skywalker has a remarkable talent for lightsaber combat despite receiving little training. Luke had his first instruction with the Jedi weapon during a brief session with Obi-Wan Kenobi. After a short training period with Yoda, Skywalker proved to be a brilliant duelist on Bespin.

Rey

Rey Skywalker, also known as Rey, was a human female Jedi Master who fought alongside the Resistance against the First Order. Rey felt drawn to the dark side of the Force despite her allegiance to the Jedi Order and the light side of the Force because of her anger and combative relationship with Ben Solo.

Their special Force relationship was a product of their nature as a dyad in the Force. Rey from The Last Jedi matched Kylo in a forced struggle and quickly lifted many rocks. She showed her skills when fighting Snoke’s guards and even gave Luke some trouble in their little stick fight.

Henceforth in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey was powerful enough to stop ships from flying away and blow them up with lightning. She might not be as good of a duelist as other characters in this Star Wars Characters Tier List 2023, but she is one of the most robust Star Wars female characters and has a decisive edge. She used the Force during the Light Saber duel against Kylo to stop his blade.

I think she should be able to beat them with a superior Force advantage. Therefore she could lose if she relies too much on her Light Saber skills. She did kill Palpatine, but she needed two Light Sabers while Palpatine was unarmed, and she died in the process. If Palpatine could kill her before that, he would have been fine.

Dooku

We could say that in the movies after Darth Sidious, his disciple Darth Tyrannus has a more impactful role as a villain in the Star Wars universe; that is why I placed him in the A-tier above other villains. Count Dooku, also known as Darth Tyranus, was a Force-sensitive Serennian human male who was a Jedi master but later became the Evil Lord of the Sith after falling to the dark side of the Force.

Furthermore, he was Darth Sidious’ second apprentice, and his plan to rule the galaxy depended on Dooku organizing a pan-galactic separatist revolution against the Republic. Dooku immersed himself in the dark side and worked relentlessly to further his and his master’s schemes, but he eventually forgot that treason was the Sith way of life, and he was also naive by not thinking that he was nothing more than a pawn of his master. Dooku was appointed as the Dark Lord’s apprentice and named Darth Tyranus.

In effect, Count Dooku was one of the greatest duelists of his era. He is comparable to Mace Windu. The only reason he’s not in the upper tiers is that he is old in the movies, his stamina is not what it used to be, and his skills degenerate rapidly throughout the Clone Wars. He is not as strong in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith as in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. Dooku held his zone against Master Yoda for a short time.

Kylo Ren

Ben Solo, commonly known as Kylo Ren, was a Force-sensitive Human male who became the Supreme Leader of the First Order after commanding the Knights of Ren; he turned to the evil side of the Force but was restored to the light side just before his death. General Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa, his parents, and his uncle, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, were regarded as tremendous heroes of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Equally important, Ben Solo, the heir to the Skywalker family, possessed raw Force strength, and potential for boundless power. Sidious, the phantom, targeted Solo and used his creation, Supreme Leader Snoke, to raise Solo to distrust his family and eventually turn to the evil side. Through their unique Force relationship, apprentice Jedi Rey had grown close to Ren and felt she could return him to the light.

During a fight with Rey, he was drawn back to the light when his mother spoke to him as she died, reminding him of his family’s love and forgiveness. Reclaiming his name as Ben Solo, the redeemed Jedi joined Rey on Exegol to defeat Sidious, although Rey died. Afterward, Solo died too, and became one with the Force when he sacrificed himself to resurrect Rey.

Darth Maul

Darth Maul was an excellent character in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and became a prominent character in the Clone Wars. Still, as a character, he has no development compared to other villains ranking him down to the A-Tier. During the era of the Galactic Empire, he established himself as a crime lord as a Force-sensitive Dathomirian Zabrak male. Darth Maul was previously Darth Sidious’ Sith student, making him a Dark Lord of the Sith.

In addition, Maul was the son of Mother Talzin, head of the Dathomir Nightsisters, and was trained to despise Jedi Knights, who served the dark side of the Force. Maul was trained as Darth Sidious’ apprentice to be a living Sith weapon, one who would aid Sidious in the demolition of the Jedi and the takeover of the galaxy. Darth Maul was thought to be killed in the aftermath of the fight, but he survived and returned later, at the height of the Clone Wars.

Furthermore, Darth Maul during Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was good enough to fight Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobsimultaneouslyme, and he almost beat both of them. He probably would have defeated them if it were not for his overconfidence.

B Tier

Average Characters
B Tier.

The B-tier is an average tier where I placed those characters with a decent storyline and some skills and raw strength. It includes four characters from the Star Wars universe, mainly the characters that are old and passing their prime or just used as a mere tool by others.

Snoke

Snoke was the Supreme Leader of the First Order during the New Republic Era. He was a Force-sensitive humanoid genetic strand cast male. Snoke was an artificial genetic construct created by the Dark Lord of the Sith and Galactic Emperor Darth Sidious on Exegol. Snoke eventually emerged as the leader of the First Order, a hermit state in Unknown Regions founded from a remnant of the Galactic Empire, thanks to his extraordinary powers and forethought.

Henceforth, Snoke as a supreme leader holds absolute power. During the Cold War’s final years, Snoke ordered his apprentice to track down and kill Ren’s uncle, Luke Skywalker, a former Jedi Master, to bring the Great Jedi Purge to a conclusion with Skywalker’s death as the last Jedi. Snoke orchestrated a surprise attack against the New Republic with Starkiller Base, destroying the Galactic Senate and igniting the First Order-Resistance War and, at the same time, pursuing his goals of eradicating the Resistance and Skywalker.

Consequently, Snoke was powerful enough and was about to kill Ray but was only killed because Kylo tricked him. Kylo Ren assassinated Snoke to become the next Supreme Leader of the galaxy. Snoke had a significant influence on turning the grandson of Anakin Skywalker to the dark side. Snoke’s purpose in life was accomplished when his apprentice murdered him, and ascended to Supreme Leader of the First Order

Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn was a Force-sensitive Human male Jedi Master who lived during the last decades of the Galactic Republic and was most remembered for locating and bringing Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One of the Jedi prophecy, into the Jedi Order. He was the first Jedi to know about immortality. Jinn earned the title of Jedi Knight after years of training under Dooku and became a Jedi Master after successfully training his own Padawan.

Eventually, Jinn accepted Kenobi as his apprentice, and the two began their long training together. Jinn and Kenobi took part in several missions around the galaxy during the following twelve years. When Jinn returned to Naboo with Amidala, he and Kenobi battled Darth Maul, and the Jedi Master was killed by the Sith before Kenobi sliced him in half. Jinn requested Kenobi to teach Skywalker as his Padawan in his dying words.

Even so, after Jinn’s death on Naboo, he continued to significantly impact the Jedi’s destiny. Jinn remained a Force ghost for the rest of his life, eventually transmitting the wisdom to Kenobi and Grand Master Yoda. Even though Skywalker turned to the dark side and became the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader, the Galactic Empire rose in its stead, nearly destroying the Jedi Order. He finally fulfilled the prophecy, slaying his Sith Master Darth Sidious and returning to the light in his last moments, precisely as Jinn foretold.

Grievous

Grievous was a Kaleesh male warlord who served as a commanding general in the armed forces during the Clone Wars in the Republic Era’s last years. Kaleesh held the Supreme Martial Commander title of the Separatist Droid Armies throughout the conflict, and he commanded numerous engagements against the Republic’s Grand Army. He was known for his harsh techniques and his substantial cybernetic advancements.

Notably, General Grievous has given Obi-Wan Kenobi throughout the Clone Wars and has the advantage of having four arms, immense strength, durable armor, and a blaster rifle. His biggest flaw is the lack of force power, but he does win the war for the strongest non-force users in the Star Wars Characters Tier List . Darth Sidious and Darth Tyranus, Sith Lords, heard of his deadly reputation. They offered to turn Grievous into a cybernetic warrior, which he accepted to earn the ability to defeat Jedi in battle.

All things considered, Grievous is a Jedi Killer, and he knows how to kill a Jedi mercilessly. He has done it time and time again. Grievous is a formidable opponent having an extensive collection of Lightsabers, so we can assume how many Jedi he has killed in his life. Grievous was the most powerful figure among the Separatists, only second to Count Dooku, making him a deserving character for the B-tier.

Leia Skywalker

I have placed Princess Leia at the bottom of the B-tier. She did not complete her Jedi training, but in a flashback scene, she could get the better of Luke, although even Luke probably was not trying that hard. She contacted her son, Ben Solo, across the galaxy, which is not a known feat in others except for her brother, Luke Skywalker.

During the Imperial Era and the New Republic and Resistance, Leia Organa Solo was a female political and military commander in the Alliance to Restore the Republic. By resisting authoritarian governments like the Galactic Empire and the First Order, Leia dedicated her life to restoring democracy.

Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, and Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo were her parents., making her one of the most important Star Wars female characters. Leia used her last power to contact her son and bring him back to the light side of the Force as she was getting closer to her death.

C Tier

Notable Characters
C Tier.

The C-tier is a below-average tier where I placed most of those Star Wars characters that are weak in strength and play more supporting roles in the series. This tier consists of four characters that are very close to each other.

Han Solo

Han Solo was known solely as Han until an Imperial recruitment officer gave him Solo’s surname. He rose through the ranks of the Alliance to Restore the Republic to become its leader during the Galactic Civil War.

He was crucial in the Galactic Empire’s defeat. He was the son-in-law of fallen Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala,  husband of Princess Leia Organa, brother-in-law of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, father of Ben Solo, and rivals and close friends with fellow smuggler Lando Calrissian and Wookiee Chewbacca making him an important figure in the series even though he does not have that much raw power.

Momentarily, Solo drifted away after losing his kid, returned to smuggling, and even lost the Millennium Falcon to many thieves. During a fight, Solo encountered his son, who had chosen the name Kylo Ren, and attempted to convince him to come home. On the other hand, Ren used his lightsaber to stab his father. Solo died after being mortally wounded. Solo’s heroic legacy and spirit remained, and a year later, he came in a Force vision to persuade Ren to renounce the dark side and kill the revived Emperor Palpatine.

R2-D2

Industrial Automaton produced an R2-series astromech robot leading them to manufacture R2-D2. The resourceful and feisty robot acquired an adventurous personality during his century of service. Many arms, sensors, and other tools could be extended inside his cylindrical form to meet diverse requirements, such as slicing computers, extinguishing fires, projecting holograms, fixing starships, and flying.

As a result, R2-D2 was repeatedly shown in the middle of pivotal moments in galactic history. His bravery, together with his numerous devices, was instrumental in protecting the galaxy. R2-D2 worked directly for Queen Amidala, assisting her in the liberation of Naboo and remaining with her for ten years. When Skywalker became a Jedi Knight, Amidala handed him R2-D2.

Padawan Jedi Anakin Skywalker was appointed to safeguard her, and R2-D2 and C-3PO followed them to Geonosis, where they fought in the Clone Wars’ opening battle. The astromech droid dutifully served him throughout the war, flying in Skywalker’s starfighter’s droid socket or fighting beside him on the front lines.

C-3PO

C-3PO was a protocol droid from the 3PO series built to communicate with organics and was programmed mainly for etiquette and convention. He could speak in nearly six million different ways. C-3PO was frequently involved in pivotal moments in galactic history, and he contributed to the galaxy’s salvation on numerous occasions. Anakin Skywalker reconstructed C-3PO using spare components. The droids assisted Princess Leia in escaping the Empire’s Death Star after meeting Luke Skywalker’s son and Han Solo’s smuggler.

Moreover, C-3P0 was intimately connected to the three humans, assisting them and their Resistance in defeating the Empire and restoring galactic independence. During the New Republic, C-3PO continued to serve the Skywalkers and Han Solo after the Battle of Endor.  He has shown extraordinary loyalty and commitment to his masters as a droid. He tried his hardest to serve them to the best of his ability making him a suitable candidate for the C-tier of Strongest Star Wars Characters Tier List

Chewbacca

Chewbacca was a Wookiee male warrior, smuggler, mechanic, pilot, and resistance fighter who participated in the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War, the Cold War, and the succeeding First Order Resistance War. The Galactic Empire enslaved Chewbacca until he was liberated by Corporal Han Solo and became his co-pilot on the Millennium Falcon under the Empire’s rule. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi later hired Chewbacca and Solo to transport him. Chewbacca and Solo fought Empire in several battles during the war.

After Solo’s death, Chewbacca performed as the Falcon’s sole pilot, including flying the ship to help the Resistance. Chewbacca has great flying and mechanic repair skills, thanks to his expertise in piloting the Millennium Falcon. Chewbacca was noticeably quicker at handling Falcon’s controls, which he kept a secret from Han to avoid hurting the smuggler’s pride.

D Tier

ordinary Characters
D Tier.

The characters in this D rank are one step above the Stormtroopers and battle droids. They are primarily skilled and about as good as any actual living human can hope to be. The tier only includes two non-Jedi characters.

Poe Dameron

Poe Dameron was a human male who worked as a pilot in the New Republic before joining the Resistance and acting as General during the Resistance’s fight and later war with the First Order. After defecting to the Resistance, Dameron became one of General Leia Organa’s most-trusted operatives. During the battle to destroy the superweapon known as Starkiller Base, he provided air support to Finn, Rey, Han Solo, and Chewbacca.

Dameron acquired a strong sense of duty and dedication but struggled to draw the line between his loyalty to the Resistance and his commitment to his companions, prepared to defy a direct command from his superior, General Organ. Dameron was promoted to acting general at the end of the new trilogy. The character has some good scenes in the series, but it is not up to the mark as other characters in the top tiers, so I placed him in the D-Tier.

Finn

Finn was a human male stormtrooper who served the First Order until abandoning and switching sides with the Resistance during the First Order-Resistance War. Finn lacked the ruthlessness that has spread through the ranks due to Captain Phasma’s influence. He refused to help the Resistance for a time, preferring to avoid the galactic struggle rather than fight for a cause he felt would fail. As the galaxy descended into chaos, the rogue warrior was forced to choose between his actual allegiances.

With a Lightsaber and a bit of backing from the Force, Finn could hold off an injured Kylo Ren. Finn, as a stormtrooper, frequently received high scores in his training and was seen as a potential First Order trooper. His character played a significant role in the new trilogy. Still, his power level is slightly better than any average stormtrooper, so I had him placed in the D Rank.

Verdict

Well, it is time for the article to end, and I have ranked some of the most significant characters in this entire universe. To achieve this goal, I choose 21 characters from the Star Wars franchise from over 150 characters and put them on a list. I tried to include the most famous characters from the movies and shows.

Let me know what you guys thought in the comments down below. I hope you agree with my rankings of the characters in the Star Wars Characters Tier List. If you do not, it’s okay. We are all part of the same fandom, and we all resonate with the movies and shows in different ways.
