Actua Soccer 2 sold over 250,000 units

Sports games are a big part of the gaming traditions. Sports games have been around since the 50s and continue to have a significant impact. You cannot talk about major sports games without mentioning the Actua sports.

Actua Sports is a sports video game series published by Gremlin Interactive, which competed with the like of Electronic Arts EA Sports label during the second half of the 1990s until Infogrames acquired Gremlin. It’s arguably one of the most famous sports game franchises. Games from the series have received laudation reviews.

According to our findings, the Gremlin Interactives report, in which the Joint Chief Executive made a Statement, Actua Soccer 2 sold over 250,000 copies worldwide and recorded the highest sales for any game in the series. The report said that Actua Golf 2 Sold over 120,000 copies.

The report showed Turnover for six months ended 31st January 1998, was £13.2m, an increase of 62% on the £8.2m for the same period of the previous financial year.

According to the report, we found that Hardcore 4×4 achieved revenue above £2m, a racing video game developed by Gremlin Interactive for the Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and Microsoft Windows.

For those unfamiliar with Gremlin Interactive, It was a British software house based in Sheffield; Gremlin enjoyed significant success with the Zool and Premier Manager series in the early 1990s and then with Actua Soccer, the first football game in full 3D.

Following EA’s success, Gremlin released their own sports videogame series, adding Golf, Tennis, and Ice Hockey to their Actua Sports series. The company was acquired by French video game publisher Infogrames in 1999 and was renamed Infogrames Studios in 2000. which later closed down in 2003.

One of the best things about the gaming industry is its diversity. Publishers release games all year round, and due to the vast demand, a lot of them make a profit. However, even in this very diverse environment, few companies survive.
