Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic(KOTOR) is an RPG video game series. It is based on a comic book series of Star Wars universe by George Lucas. BioWare developed the earlier MMORPG series and the first installment in this series. Afterward, Obsidian Entertainment developed the second game at LucasArts’ request.
After the Expanded Universe was discontinued and rebranded as Star Wars Legends, Knight of the Republic became the only source for Legends’ content. The series has seen many things, but even after all that, Sony PlayStation announced the 2003 Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic’s remake along with a trailer in September of 2021.
Since then, fans have kept their patience, even after the latest rumor of a possible delay. Unfortunately, according to an insider, anyone wishing for it to arrive before or during 2024 is just unrealistically optimistic.
Even 2024 is wishful thinking unless they pare down the scope of the project
Jason Schreier is a reporter for Bloomberg and a credible source regarding these pieces of information. He debunked Assassin Creed rumors and reported that GTA VI would have its first female protagonist.
His word is most likely accurate, and if he says it will take that long, then it probably will. Interestingly, he said, “unless they pare down the scope of the project, ” indicating that he likely knows more about the game.
But for anyone who loves the franchise, this is a tough situation. You can either hope they bring it out early, but then the quality will be downgraded, or you can hope for the best quality a bit later in time.
Embracer Group recently gave some relevant information regarding the game’s development. They stated;
One of the group’s AAA projects has transitioned to another studio within the group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title.
Although it was mentioned that “one of its AAA projects” and not Knight of the Old Republic, it was pretty easy for everyone to guess what they meant, it is one of their only games being delayed so much. If we connect that with Jason’s statement of the game wanting to have high quality, it’s easy to see that.
In a sense, it is good that they are prioritizing quality. But they should deal with the people’s expectations and patience. People might end up being too critical when it comes out. Nonetheless, it is one of the most-awaited games and will be released exclusively for PS5 and PC first. It will be available on other consoles at a later date.
