BioShock’s New Game Plot, and World-Setting Leaked

BioShock is a retrofuturistic video game series. It was created by Ken Levine and published by 2K Games. Several studios created this masterpiece, including 2K Marin and Irrational Games. The beauty of BioShock games is that they combine the FPS aspect with the RPG elements. How so? By giving the players freedom to explore the ‘combat’ itself, approach it with different situations, and feel like they are in a more immersive world.

The series has three main games: BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite. The 3rd title came in 2013, so it has been a long time since we had anything from the franchise. Fans miss exploring not only the philosophical but also the moral concepts of the game that are rooted in its narrative.

We talk so highly of the game because it has sold over 37 million copies by May 2021, so that number should be way higher now. It is easily one of the best-selling video game franchises, and some still consider it underrated.

New BioShock Game

Lucky for us, 2K Games have the rights to the BioShock, and they announced at the end of 2019 that a new game is in development by Cloud Chamber. However, much of the information is still shrouded in mystery. But that won’t be long, as we got some significant leaks from OopsLeaks. He leaked that a new Naughty Dogs game is in the works, and it will have a ‘Fantasy’ setting. His statement was in April, and recent TLOU Part 1 easter eggs show that there is potentially a new Fantasy IP.

OopsLeaks has started dumping massive information on the game, but like he said, as we progress further into the leaks, the probability of it being changed is high.

First off, OopsLeaks posted a logo for the game in his tweet, along with some information that may be outdated at this point. These leaks surfaced due to a data breach in 2020. He confirms these are true, as he confirmed when he had his source. The game was still in its earliest stages.

The game was supposed to be announced earlier this year. Unfortunately, we did not see any of that. He said that it was also possible for them to announce the game in TGA’21, and based on Geoff’s words, we might see the announcement in the next TGA.

He added that it was agreed upon for two years that they would have the announcement, but things didn’t add up since it didn’t happen. Later on, it was revealed that the game was postponed due to staff reductions. They had lost almost 30 employees within two months, which stunted the game’s development tremendously. There were no official announcements, but many reported on this subject, confirming its credibility.

The BioShock Netflix Film

OopsLeaks also received early information on the Netflix adaptation and when it will be announced. But he didn’t have complete confirmation on things about the game’s announcement, as Netflix’s adaptation could impact it in some ways. However, we only know the release date from T2, who said it will be released before the end of 2024.

There is a glimmer of hope that we see some announcement in the next PlayStation Showcase, which would align with the agreement between 2K and PS reported by Shpeshal_Nick. Nick is another insider and journalist in the industry. As we mentioned earlier, it can also be during TGA’22 or completely random. But it should be noted that the game is not PS5 exclusive, as OopsLeaks has mentioned several times.

The Development of the Game

The development is not urgent to 2K as they prioritize quality above everything. That’s good, as we saw with Cyberpunk 2077 on how rushing ruins a beautiful concept. The game will be exactly what we expect from BioShock, the concepts will be similar, and no new significant changes will be made in that area.

The announcement is also crucial to the developers, so the exact date would only be given once they eradicate any possibility of delays. The studio now has the same number of employees and is hiring new staff for better production.

Game’s World Setting

Here is your bread and butter; he confirms that the game will be based in Antarctica. It will be an open world and have a main story with multiple endings. His sources do not confirm this, but he says that the theme “aggregate states of water” will be important in the plot and lore. More on that will be revealed through exploration and side quests.

If you love the 1960s art vibes, you might love this, as it is similar to Deathloop. There will be some psychedelic and trippy music and art. He also said that he heard it would have a female protagonist, but he can’t confirm whether Schyman will be back.

The combat system will be interesting as it is diversified with utilities and combinations of abilities. One important part that we all would love is the impact of terrain on combat. It will make things more immersive and the fights a lot more engaging.

Less Likely Things

Now, anything we say falls under the less likely things. But we should be happy that we got all the above information almost confirmed. Anyways, take this with a massive grain of salt.

The narrative will focus on the refugees, as the city is now filled with those who have left Rapture. So, we will see multi-culture in many aspects, including the architecture in the game. There will be two cities, upper “Borealis” and lower “Aurora, which is “named after the cruiser from the Communist Revolution in the Russian Empire, hiding under layers of ice.

There will be a soviet city built and maintained by slave laborers. The female protagonist will be among them. The story’s primary goal is to unite the two cities, Borealis and Aurora. Do take these with much doubt, as he can no longer confirm these with his source, and those who provided him that information gave no source. But most of what we mentioned before is approved by OopsLeaks.

That is all we got from him. What is the most exciting part for you? Let us know in the comments below, and we will get back to you.
