Rockstar Games is one of the most popular video game companies to ever exist. They deserve no introduction as Rockstar Games has given us what may as well be the most iconic video game franchise of all time. Saying that is no exaggeration; Grand Theft Auto is a popular video game franchise known and played by almost every gamer worldwide. It revolutionized the genre and showed us what we truly love in a game.
Almost all of the series’ games set up a higher standard than before and reached heights never seen before. This raises the question: Will GTA VI meet those expectations, and even set a new standard for Rockstar Games?
Rockstar Games has shown their devotion and even told us that our expectations for this game should be higher than ever. That speaks volumes, mainly since GTA V has sold 170 million units, while Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed 45 million games sold.
If GTA VI has to set a new standard, it must surpass the previous installments and other games by Rockstar Games. It is a huge task, and many might say it’s impossible. But Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive think otherwise as they stated:
With the development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases.
According to Take-Two, GTA VI’s development is going well, and this game will set the benchmarks for the entertainment industry.
How can it live up to that expectation?
As we already know, Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V are doing exceptionally well in their sales. These games are considered “masterpieces” and have little to no criticism. GTA VI has to outclass them in every situation, but it might be the perfect game to do so.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be the first in the franchise to have a female protagonist, and that move was made to counter some controversy regarding the previous games. On the surface, that’s what it looks like, but Rockstar Games reportedly had some other ideas for the game itself, and some of that might be visible here.
They scrapped most of the content before, but that doesn’t mean they discarded all of it. Moreover, GTA VI will take inspiration from an infamous couple, Bonnie and Clyde. We are mentioning those things here because this game is not like the ones we have had before, and since GTA V had seemingly peaked the Grand Theft Auto, this might be a different, hopefully, better game experience.
This time we aren’t merely speculating or hoping for the best. The developers are setting these expectations themselves, and there must be a reason. Grand Theft Auto franchise has passed 380 million units sold. As they prepare for GTA VI, this number will surely get higher.
In the meantime, what are your thoughts on their confidence regarding GTA VI? Do you think it is doomed to be overshadowed by the likes of GTA V and RDR2? Let us know your thoughts below!
