Druckmann Says Last of Us Multiplayer is Naughty Dog’s Most Ambitious Project

Coming from the man himself, things appear to be promising.

You would know that The Last of Us Franchise is a benchmark in the gaming world if you aren’t living under a rock. The post-apocalyptic setting is unique, and Naughty Dog has pushed boundaries with their storytelling coupled with state-of-the-art visuals, voice acting, and motion capture technology.

Now that is not it, we might have thought that the sequel to the highly acclaimed Last of Us would be the pinnacle point of the series, but the vice president of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, now claims in an interview that they have been working on a Last of Us multiplayer game long ago before the release of the Last of Us 2. Further, he stated that it is the most ambitious project of Naughty Dog.

Our team at Top Tier List came across this tweet from the Twitter user @domthebombyt. He is well-known in the Last of Us community for his content centered around the franchise. In the tweet is a video of an interview with Neil Druckmann. Where he claimed all that we talked about earlier.

In a Nutshell

  • The Last of Us Multiplayer Game is in the works.
  • A short clip of an interview with Neil Druckmann has surfaced on twitter, where he claims it is their most ambitious project to date.
  • He also talks about the work balance issues caused by the premature release date announcement of Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us 2.
  • In the short clip, there is also an indication of another project that he is very excited for.

Neil, in the interview, says that they have been working on the multiplayer project of The Last of Us for a very long time, and they have tried to expand the world even further and have tried to narrate a story in a multiplayer space. He stops and says he can’t give more details.

At the end of the video, there is one thing that kept us very curious, and he claimed that there is another project in the world that is beyond the Last of Us Multiplayer, and he is very excited about it.

In the short clip from the tweet, Neil talked about the work-life balance issues caused by the premature announcement of the Last of Us 2 and Uncharted 4. Thus in our opinion, it is an indication of why the long-time Last of Us Multiplayer project has not been the talk of the town nor officially announced, but Neil’s words have confirmed it.

This is a very sane move because Uncharted 4 was delayed many times, and the development team had to undergo many changes. Key figures of the company left the company, and the game’s multiplayer mode was buggy and slandered by the gaming community. Likewise, the Last of Us Part II had to face a similar situation, with reports stating that it bumped the turnover rate in the company.

A multiplayer game is not easy to make, and it can be very hard to balance the true essence of a franchise and give an engaging experience that does not upset long-time fans of a franchise. It requires resources different from what you would need for a story-driven game, and it would be very exciting to see what Naughty Dog pulls out of the bag this time.

We would love to hear your opinion on this in the comments below since this is a significant development. Do tell us how you feel about the multiplayer game and what could be the next project Neil and his team would be working on.
