PlayStation’s Valkyrie Entertainment Returns to Assist an Xbox Title

State of Decay has been out for almost a decade, and the third installment in the series is set to release in the coming years. Although it was announced by Microsoft in 2020, it still lacks a release date, and it seems like the State of Decay 3 might take even longer than we think.

However, an unexpected turn occurred amidst the heated situation between Sony and Microsoft. Valkyrie Entertainment, which PlayStation recently acquired, has now returned to assist Undead Labs in bringing State of Decay 3 to existence.

As surprising as it may sound, this is not exactly the first time a PlayStation Studio has assisted an Xbox title in its development; chances are, it will continue to happen without any issues on either side.

Major Points

  • Valkyrie Entertainment is a big studio and proves to be a great investment as it helps Sony Interactive Entertainment and other notable publishers develop their games.
  • Although many consider this a “stupid” move from Sony, this has been happening for quite some time and will continue to do so, regardless of the situation.
  • Aside from State of Decay 3, Valkyrie Entertainment also assists titles like Forza Motorsport (2023), Halo Infinite Multiplayer, Valorant, and League of Legends.

Our team at TopTierList further added context to the situation, as many people found Valkyrie Entertainment’s actions to be weird.

At the end of 2021, Sony acquired Valkyrie Entertainment, and for some reason, people thought the studio would now be less involved with other studios. It is a 1st-party studio, but it is one of the most efficient studios out there. It develops its own games, supports other studios internally and externally, and even ports titles. Such a studio is a massive W as an investment for Sony.

Valkyrie Entertainment had close relationships with PlayStation, and that partnership became the opportunity for acquisition. But that does not mean there is a sealed wall between PlayStation and its rivals. In fact, the number of behind-the-scene partnerships between such studios is mind-blowing. Visual Arts, Malaysia Studio, Wwise, Valkyrie, and PhyreEngine, are great examples of that.

Their portfolio is not just limited to PlayStation and Xbox Game Studios; they help Riot Games with Valorant and League of Legends as well, alongside the previously known Halo Infinite Multiplayer, Forza Motorsport (2023), and now State of Decay 3.

In addition, it is good news for the game because we finally have some progress with its development. It has been long enough, but maybe Microsoft will be ready soon to give a release date or an update to the state of State of Decay 3 (no pun intended).

That is all for today. Do you think the game will receive an updated announcement soon? And were you aware of this exchange between Sony and Microsoft? Share your thoughts with us below, and we will get back to you!
